Wait, you're actually going to use it? I had just made the Corsair for fun :P It's cool either way.

Well, we might. Can anyone really say for sure what the future holds?

Yin? Or Yang?
I know enough about Taoist philosophy to find this personally offensive. (Edit: "personally offensive" is a bit harsh... nonetheless... don't do this!) The idea of yin and yang is about balance. You can't have one without the other. It's like a magnetic monopole.

I can go into a long explanation of what yin and yang mean, but here's the short version: Just call your unit the Twilight Walker or something, and don't reference philosophies you don't understand. D:

Actually, I'm Chinese. While that doesn't automatically confer on me any expertise or whatever, I actually do know some small bit of the Taoist philosophy, though not much by any standard. I really wasn't thinking in terms of philosophy when I came up with the name so I apologize for any inadvertent offense.

Yeah, well, I was probably a bit too harsh. I'm not really personally offended (I don't get offended by much; nor am I Taoist), but what I meant to say was that most Taoists would be offended by such an inaccurate depiction. It's like taking the Christian idea of "love thy neighbor" and saying "This is Christian-Man! He goes around having sex with his neighbors!" - the analogy being that not only is it not at all what the philosophy means, but the philosophy explicitly forbids that.

You never pursue a "path of yin" or a "path of yang". This isn't the European concept of "Light" and "Dark", where light is good and dark is evil. It's not the European concept of morally neutral alignments, like Law or Chaos, either. They're two parts of the same whole. The central tenet of the philosophy of yin and yang is the statement: "You can't [and/or shouldn't] have one without the other."

The quintessential example of "you can't have one without the other" is the population of humans. Without both males and females, the human race would die out in one generation, thus you need both.

In reference to a single person, you never seek 'yin' or 'yang', you seek balance. Always. That's what TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is about. If you have too much yang, we give you more yin to balance it out; if you have too much yang, you need more yin. Same with many martial arts forms; they're about keeping a balance between yin and yang.

Furthermore, yin and yang are concepts. Abstractions. Metaphors. Not solid "things" you can follow the path of.

(I'm Chinese, too, and I grew up with this stuff.)

Nice clothes, (reminds me of silver mage) but the face kinda blurs into the necklace and hair.

Man, Your art looks like it came from a REAL game (one that would come out on like a console or hand-held thing). The Cosair thing looks like it came off of StarCraft. The Adjuncator or whatever looks like it came off of some NDS rpg. The Steelhive units and all look like something out ofv one of the recent pokemon games.

Really, the only thing that looks like it was made for Wesnoth is the lizardman and that monk guy.

@ Jackbarber: Is everything looking non-wesnoth a good or bad thing? I have my own style. I'm trying to get it to conform to Wesnoth style, and the first step of that process is making stronger outlines. The dark-light monk dude was kinda an exercise in that.

Speaking of that monk guy, I renamed it the Nameless, in order to avoid any... Offensive connotations. Yeah. His 2 upgrades are The Lightnamed and The Darknamed.

I notice how it not looking wesnoth(ish?) could be taken the wrong way, but in this case it's a good thing.
Actually I think most of your things are somehow too good for wesnoth... (No offence at the people who made wesnoth).

In other news the Lightnamed level up guy looks a bit off, it's mostly the legs looking to short but other than that it's good.

Heh. My stuff just has a different shading style than the mainline sprites. The main difference is that... To use videogame expressions, my stuff is closer to 32-bit sprites while most Wesnoth unit sprites are close to 16-bit-ish style. Jetrel, TSI, Eternal, a billion other people on this forum are waayyyy better at pixelart than I am.

In other news, I moved the white guy's belt up a pixel. Does that help somewhat?

Looking really good.

Small (constructive) crit: On the second (bottom left) sprite the sleves are straight lines. I would try to adjust them so there is some element of a curve in there as pure straights never work that well.

That aside, keep going, the third is brill!
