Re: Orc Portrait Series
Is there going to be a new portrait for Kapou'e? That would be amazing.

I will now resume lurking silently.
Re: Orc Portrait Series
SotBE is probably the last campaign that ought to have its portraits redone. They're not quite up to the current standard, but they're good.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Not any time soon, no. There are other campaigns in vastly greater need of new portraits than that one. As A-red said, they're not totally up to speed with the mainline style or orcish anatomy (we were still developing both when we drew those portraits), but they're more than acceptable at present. They might get some extra attention in the very distant future, but for now, they're fine.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
I really like his expression, but he seems quite a bit buffer than the higher level portraits. It might be the fault of the bulky tunic he's wearing.
Re: Orc Portrait Series
really cheap 1-minute edit as food for thought:
It's interesting that the only thing that makes these look 'ape-like' is the space between the nose and the mouth. If you move the nose down, it creates a very different, rather interesting look - still bestial, but lacking any of the 'ape' appearance.
What you do with this insight is up to you. You're doing the work, you make the decisions - might be an interesting direction to try, though.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Nice work on all three archers!
The first two ones are simply great, but there are some little things bothering me about the new L1 one.
As Neoskel already noted he seems a bit too buff in comparison to the higher levels. As well his arms seem quite a bit shorter than on the other orcs - I quite like that feature of your species design. And there is something strange about the eyes, they aren't symmetrical and are extremely small.
Is that all of them now?

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Jet : thanks for that insight. The nose thing is an interesting change and a simple enough one at such an early stage. I'm not certain yet which option I prefer, so I'll wait until I've had some time away from these guys before I reach a decision.
Final lineart + flats, warped towards the "new" orcish built. The starting sketch for this guy was an early assassin attempt, back when we were still stabilizing for the definitive orcish features - hence the shorter arms and thicker chest. Everything that has been noted should now be clear.
Kitty : yup, that's it for the orcs' drawing phase. I'm now going back to the loys for a while before I do any shading : the lancer portrait is missing and that alternative grand knight is still on my workbench

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Enjoyed a nice week-end with added free time for the tablet, so here I come with the first shaded orc. Behold...Grunt #2 !
Some tweaks are still needed I'd say, especially clever highlights that would bring forward his front arm.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
It would be worth delaying the release of 1.8 to wait for these orcs to be done. Since they appear in about every campaign, the new artwork will greatly enhance the game!
Campaigns: Dead Water,
The Founding of Borstep,
Secrets of the Ancients,
and WML Guide

Re: Orc Portrait Series
The shading is too blue to me.
Re: Orc Portrait Series
well, 1.8 is pretty close and art is one of the few things that can be easily added in stable releases, so delaying 1.8 for those portraits would not make much sense
but we'll add allthe ones that are ready when 1.8 is...

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Mmmh...If you tell me when this 1.8 release is scheduled - and depending how soon this actually is, I might be able to squeeze in the minimum required to replace existing portraits.
Just let me know.

Why not just work that fast anyway?
