Sir Iwein's Sprites

Hello,
I'm playing Wesnoth for over two years, and now I want to try doing some sprites and eventually creating a small mod.

This one should be a lvl1 elvish mage

The heads are frankensteined, mine were too ugly.

Critique and comments are appreciated.

They look OK, but they're a little short, particularly the second one. Compare the sizes of the sprites you're making with mainline ones =)

I made the second one a bit taller
there are some more little changes the staff is now longer

The colors seem very... bright... somehow.

Indeed. Darks are as important as lights are. Use colours from pre-existing sprites if you're not sure. It's amazing what can be done with up to 5 shades of a colour.

what do you think now?

Has anybody some advice to draw the heads and the ears? These are frankensteined and i'd like to edit them, especially because both exact the same

my way for heads was just finding pictures, maybe photos then scaling down and using to get an idea for how contours should go and making my own adjustments starting from that stage

something more advanced might be to make large-scale sketches and then treating them that way

but the pro artists probably have some better ways
