'nother dwarf!?

Post by Neoriceisgood »

presenting the graphics for the dwarfish defender!
my idea for this unit was to give it my ability idea of stand guard/full block wich would make all attacks do only 50% damage when he's defending; meaning you have one hundred percent solid dwarf wall that takes forever to kill wich is exactly what dwarves need to get their army moving; time.
the unit would get a spear for pierce damage wich dwarves already kinda lack and in the package it gets high resistance to make the 50% ability even more painfull for enemies as even charge units do petty damage to him.
The disadvantages would grow around him being a slow dwarf that's easier to hit than other dwarves in mountains and hills; but still a perfect wall to protect whatever you have to get out of a fight (Note: skirmishers are less fun to face for these guys)
But this forum is about art and not ideas =) so uh..wee

The purple thing in the helmet looks like if it was part of the face, at least at first sight. Maybe changing its color or having the face more visible would look better.

I like the idea

I like the idea alot, and it was suggested by Dave that something like this was made.
I am seriously considering using this (although i need Dev permission before Commiting anything). This would complete the Knaglon Faction, and i could get to my real 'job' of fine-tuning statistics.

Could you make a LVL 2 Gaurdsman and LVL 3 Sentinal?

I think this works best as level 2 as it looks pretty big, but I'll work on level 1 graphics first now.

Thanks dude - took one project I had wanted to do, and handled it with fínesse.

I would just like to note that this is an example of a perfect addition to wesnoth, in my opinion. It doesn't mess with the axioms of our world. It doesn't tart up our game with strange creatures (bugbears, illithid, anyone?).

The secondly posted set of images is better than the first. It is not terribly distingushed from it (looks to have slightly better armor). I would only use the second set of images.

All told, I think it looks like a good level 1 or two unit.

And all three levels are complete :D
I wasn't sure how to give the level 1 full armor without him looking like a level 2, so I just made it bronze instead.

While I like how he looks, the Level 1 is just a tad too burly in my opinion; he's considerably bigger than a Level 1 Dwarf Fighter, more than can be justified by his improved defensive abilities.

The other two are good, though - perhaps just a tiny bit more contrast between L2 and L3?

hm, well the main thing is that he -should- look much better armored than the normal dwarf fighter, and his weapon is already as wimpy as it gets in looks, any suggestions how to make him look weaker?

Just scale him down a little.

P.S.: I think level2->3 is just fine.

The shield design could also be slightly more varied between levels - if only in perhaps adding some highlighting or a shiny boss for the 3rd level perhaps.

Nice unit though - like the real defensive look with the big shield and would give a real solid dwarven feeling to the dwarven armies :)

I like the unit idea, and the art is good, but it seems to dark and doesn't fit with the other dwarves. I think it needs more brightness where it is bright and more darkness where it is dark.

Good, now give the old level 3 shield to the level 2 and do what turin suggested, and it will be perfect.
