Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
Thanks mnewton1 and HopefulCode.
Are you sure you're using the newest version of the EOM though, mnewton1? The Nailers should be lvl 1 I thought, as well as all of the Devlings other than the Sneak.

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
Hmm... I am sure I am, I just downloaded it. Ageless Era has your older version on it so I guess it's units were used instead of you when I used your era. Well there goes those tactics
. I will remove Ageless Era then try it
Edit: I found that they were a lot hard to play as. I played the computer who was the Warg. The beat me pretty bad and quickly. The reason it was easier to play as the lvl 0 versions of the Devlings was because they had no upkeep. Now they have upkeep and the only ones that seem the be decent at fighting for a lvl 1 is the Nailer and the Overgrown Devling. You could lower the level of the Curser and Flapper then I would find them more useful because they would still be weak and he same price but would have no upkeep. I really like the lvl 0 version better. I can use a new play style that way.

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
I've recently played a game, and I've got to say that the new devlings irk me incredibly. They don't feel very much like the devilings I knew. I was playing against vampires, and were it not for my ability to recruit sneaks my enemy would have both out-numbered me, and still have higher quality troops. The only reason I won was because my opponent was rather imcompitant. I forgot to save the replay, but you should be able to find it on the site where the server saves replays too. However fighting an enemy army of almost equal size as devilings just felt... wrong. Especialy since my opponent still had damage and durability in his favor.
I felt that you went to far (or in some cases thought you went to far) towards quality. If you're going to make the devlings more "normal" then at least keep them on the much cheaper than average end of the scale please.
As far as the more individual units
-The leveled up flappers do feel like a versitile and usefull scout though very fragile. It was hard to get used to them having a ZoC. The match I played didn't make much use of them because all of mine died to lucky fledglings.
-The leveled up Nailer felt like a fairly typical infantry except with the one shot thing. This is not very appealing to me because I like main infantry to have either reliable damage or expendability. I think that the overgrown works fine as a level1 hitter for the devlings and that this unit would work better as a level0
-The leveled up curser was a problem. It resembels no unit closer than the adept except that: It dose much less damage, It is easier to kill, it is faster, and it costs more. Cursers used to make up for the fact that they did little damage for a ranged unit and died super easy by being numerous. The extra one damage does give it a little extra juice at night, but it dosn't make up for the new cost very well. If you want this unit to be a level1 I would still suggest that you make it cost less.

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
Thanks for the input Velensk. I agree with your assessments. In the svn version I believe Nailers are down to 12g, scouts are 17g, cursers are 16g, and I think Overgrowns are 1 cheaper than they are in 0.5.5 (e5). I think that might still not be enough though, because they should have a swarm mentality even being level 1.
There's another issue I want to address before 0.5.6 (e6) comes out though:
too many of the factions favor forest terrain. Specifically, I'd like to get the Devling off of favoring forests to caves and probably desert (or something else). I'd appreciate any thoughts on this before the next release.
Also, I thought about changing the Nailers' impact attack to a 2 swing attack. Dropping him back to level 0 might also be an option.

I think the curser could use to go down to 15, but other than that all the changes seem to be on the right track.

You're probably right, but I can't get back to working on this until I get a new computer. Conficker ate mine.Velensk wrote:I think the curser could use to go down to 15, but other than that all the changes seem to be on the right track.

(at least I think that's what happened....my comp is toast either way....[on a substitute for now])

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
uhm...for me the old devling lv0 are the better becouse the number is the strong thing of this faction, and not the quality of the trups...for me the devling must be low cost and quite weak...like the old devling
becouse if u make devling lv1 and more expensive become a normal faction...the nice thing of the devlings are the strange trops!

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
I agree with that sentiment. This is something that I'm trying to reestablish with the level 1 units; having all level 0s was too hard to balance.RenoOfTurks wrote:uhm...for me the old devling lv0 are the better becouse the number is the strong thing of this faction, and not the quality of the trups...for me the devling must be low cost and quite weak...like the old devlingbecouse if u make devling lv1 and more expensive become a normal faction...the nice thing of the devlings are the strange trops!
The next release will capture a good feel for this faction. Thank you for the comment.

Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
I'm experiencing a bug where for some unknown reason the windsong prophet and weavers graphics aren't working. I'm not sure why this is. It noticed this when I got back to working on War of the Dragon which I hope to release to 1.6 soon, however it's going to look rather clumsy to have a campaign where the main character has no art.
EDIT: Also, please get rid of the peasant at work artwork thing. It is far worse than just not having the artwork. It blerts in unexpected and looks really bad, far worse than just having the unit slide, worse even than having the unit invisible.
EDIT: Strange, now the weaver artwork appears, but the Prophet and the Oathkeeper artwork isn't working.
EDIT (again): I deleted my cache and the problem seems to have fixed itself.
EDIT (gah): There still is a bug, but I think it's on my end and based on how the campaign loads units (and thus images). I'll get it fixed or try to get it fixed.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, could you clarify please?Velensk wrote:EDIT: Also, please get rid of the peasant at work artwork thing. It is far worse than just not having the artwork. He is referring to the image that replaces an image that was not found by the game.JW wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by this, could you clarify please?Velensk wrote:EDIT: Also, please get rid of the peasant at work artwork thing. Re: The Era of Myths - (EOMe5): need new Devling feedback
Hmm... I didn't know that was why that appeared. For some reason I assumed that you put it in; sorry about that. I must say that reguardless of why it appears, it is rather detrimental to the experiance.

Bumping to note the newest version. Devlings altered highly.
Please also note this version is incompatible with all previous versions: the ids have been standardized (therefore changed).
This version will be needed to play both Count Kromire and War of the Dragon campaigns.
And as usual, we have packages and xdeltas on SourceForge, just in case you cannot download the EoM from the addons server.
