When exacly is steadfast activated?

When exacly is steadfast activated?

I've seen no lessening of damage coming from "ranged" attacks such as fire from dragons...I'm not sure about melee...probably just melee?

Steadfast: This unit's resistances are doubled, up to a maximum of 50%, when defending. Vulnerabilities are not affected.

Yeah I read that...so it means it's chance to evade an attack is always 50%+ or it takes 50% less damage?

No. As it says there the unit's resistances are doubled. If doubling results in more than 50% resistance it is set back to 50%. It does not say anything about evasion. I suggest looking the bolded words up if you have trouble understanding their meaning.

If you don't see any effect with steadfast, it might be the case that your unit has a negative or 0 resistance towards the attach damage type. Example:
Unit X (with steadfast) has following resistances:
  • Pierce: 20%
  • Blade: 30%
  • Fire: -20%
  • Arcane: 0%
Said unit will suffer the following damage from a 10-1 attack:
  • Pierce: 6
  • Blade: 5
  • Fire: 12
  • Arcane: 10
Note that blade resistance would be doubled to 60%, but is capped at 50. Also note that all of this applies on defense only.

So what's the point of Steadfast? I've only seen it on units that always have steadfast. So why not simply give those units standard increased resistances?

Because then they'd be too good on the attack - they're balanced to have those resists only on the defensive.

:lol2: Bold seems not to be stress enough. Never mind, it took me some time to figure out steadfast too.

Defensive offense! Or offensive defense? :lol2:

Merman Hoplite with Storm Trident = Battleship (or a very slow tank on land...) just its presence can be threatening without it actually moving to strike. :D

I love it when I put superior units on the edge of the AI's area of movement without actually going into it (but putting me in position to attack very soon if they don't move) and then watch them shy away to somewhere else haha.

But anyway... I thought the description for steadfast was sufficiently clear. I immediately got it the first time I ever saw a unit have it (because I looked it up and said "oh, that's cool!")
