Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
I'm putting together a collection of large animals, as requested. I've decided to start with a tiger. I've only made a base frame - but it's a start. Can you give me your opinion?

The legs are very straight, and overall, the shape isn't right. Try some reference...
Also, I'm not certain about the perspective... Try to match the wolf:

Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
While tigers and other big carnivores are glamorous and fun to work on, they would be comparatively rarely-seen. Can I put in an advance request for some duller but more common and hence more useful critters? Goats, sheep, deer, camels, dogs, cows, chickens, that sort of thing. They would be easier to do because in many cases they'd not have any effective attacks so they'd need far fewer frames. I'm not saying don't do the tiger - but it would be a waste if we ended up with lions and tigers and cheetahs and leopards and wolverines and pumas and still no prey for them to chase.
Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
Simons Mith raises a very valid point, straight from the mouth of our esteemed art director himself.

You titled it big animals, so I assume you know this and are maybe moving in this direction?
I understand why everyone does predators, since they are cool and aggressive and much more likely to be used in a scenario as monsters, but as far as mainline type material, think prey. Innocent, lumbering, cute, harmless.... doesn't that sound like fun to draw?Jetryl wrote:As sort of a Public Service Announcement, I should note that we'd also welcome other forms of livestock or large wild animals - cows, wild-bisonish things, deer/elk, etc. These would be a great boon to mainline, because they really allow you to spruce up a scene with props that make sense

Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
The moment i saw what Jetryl wrote i know what creature i wanted to make.
"The wolly pig" which mostly looks like a wild boar but fatter and longhaired.
I imagine such a creature wold be very useful, with good tasting meat a thick fur you can make warm clothes of,
and you could also shave them like sheep for wool.
But i also know its not likely that i come around doing them, at lest for a long time...
So free idea for anyone who also like the thought.

Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
It's a nice idea - it would certainly be nice, to my mind, to have a few creatures which are (at least vaguely, i'm certain someone will have made a wooly pig before) unique to the world of wesnoth, rather than simply being earth creatures.
I'm tempted to do some mucking about with these sorts of sprites as a time filler...

I've changed the shape, made the legs less straight, added some hair to his neck and lengthened the tail. Better?

Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
No. Not better. Your creature lacks the powerful bulk of a tiger, the tail is aything but a tiger's, the head is blurry... Honestly, it's closer to a striped dingo. Please use some more reference. You have to work out a good base frame.

Re: Rod's Big Animals - New: Tiger
The tail is still much much much too short, and the face of the tiger is hard to make out, the shape is very random. I would make use of the reference that LordBob provided.rod wrote:I've changed the shape, made the legs less straight, added some hair to his neck and lengthened the tail. Better?
