Re: New idea...
Welcome then, even if you have been around before.
People have made efforts before to make factions based directly or indirectly on ancient civilizations (for an actual completed effort, check the Imperial Era). It is incredibly hard to give you an opinion based on what you have said so far because there are none of the normal questions to ask, about the factions' backstory, their unit style, or anything like that. It is all already recorded history, so people can just look it up online if they want.
You are most likely to get useful opinions if you post up a more detailed/complete unit tree, giving some indications as to the strengths/weaknesses and attack types of the various units.

I'd assume that doing a civilization remembered for it's port would be sorta difficult.
Also, you may want to drop Spain and add an asian civ. That'd be fair.

Re: New idea...
Well, you've done your homework. I looked at the tree and was like WTF. Celtiberian. Then i was like, Gewgol timez!
You've gotten your homework done, like good.
As in, There's no way you just randomly did this. you just get out of some kind of world history class or summit? At least for my example, it looks like you know what you're doing.
On the Asian thing, i was really thinking more of the middle east. like, well it's blatantly obvious that Persia would be the one i'm recommending, as you're already making the sprites for persia's famous elephants..

There is also the horse oriented culture of the Huns. Not to mention all of the barbarian tribes of northern Europe and the isles that controlled significant territory, and which could provide unique unit trees.

Re: New idea...
Why not make it truely global, and throw in some American civs? Aztecs, Incans, and Mayans come to mind.
Either way though, this is a cool idea.

A lot of old civilaisations contains myths and legends, or is this a faction strictly on human lines ( and animals ) just wondering if you wanted magic you could include units from various mythologies etc.

Or if you read his first post, he is doing ancient civilizations, so with the exception of the Mayans... the Aztecs and the Incas were not full-blown civilizations until the 12th and 13th centuries.Snappl wrote:Not to mention that the american civs were way behind Europeans technologically..

He didn't define ancient.Turuk wrote:Or if you read his first post, he is doing ancient civilizations, so with the exception of the Mayans... the Aztecs and the Incas were not full-blown civilizations until the 12th and 13th centuries.Snappl wrote:Not to mention that the american civs were way behind Europeans technologically..
For all i know, he could consider anything before the automobile ancient..
Lots of people would group New World Civs with the European ones of hundreds of years earlier. It's not like they advanced much in the hundreds of years apart, except for astronomy...
Overall, American "Ancient" civs would suck. They have... Bows and Swords. No mounts or anything, and that's just not... cool.

He specifically said old civilizations, not to mention that the factions he listed are all of that type.Snappl wrote:He didn't define ancient.
On a side note, watch your language. Using foul language in any form, especially to insult others, is not allowed and will result in a ban.

well, i consider this "ancient" era before the fall of Roman empire of occident, automobile was since 1700 to 1800, and that's a lot of time...
