I initially included the single sided hammer with the idea of inclusing an alternate second attack using the rear spike. It's more versatile, which fits the line's greater cunning and intelligence.

There's actually a troll hero from SotBE that has a portrait with a weapon that looks pretty much exactly like that.. I like the idea of a different weapon, and since the heroes have three attacks instead of two, it makes sense that they would have a little lighter weapon.. right?

I know, I designed the two to match one another =)

I tried making a troll hero, just because I thought it's a good idea. I'm not sure if this is heroish enough, but I edited it from the grunt.

Woodmouse: Your troll has two elbows on the other arm and dress looks like plastic due to too 'polished' shading (add some dark to the highlights and light shade to the dark). It also looks like that it doesn't have a proper grip to the hammer.

Is this better?

I also added a scar to the chest. It's almost unseenable, but well.

I think this thread would be best served in it's reopening by focusing on the Great Troll and its edit by thespaceinvader and TheJM. Even better served by the massive Great Troll completed by Eternal, which further captures the idea in the description that these trolls are so large and powerful that they become legends.

There is already an existing troll hero that you only modified slightly, and you made the right arm huge in comparison to the body and even the other arm.

Not to mention, I would like to think that trolls do not stand with their hands on their hips...

It's best served by Eternal's Hero and Great Troll, actually. The latter is of higher quality than my attempt.

And now for something not-so-completely different, this troll chatter made my pencil itch. Whichever it'd be best suited for (Troll warrior I'd say), here's a sketch inspired by all of them sprites.
Note that as far as jewelry goes, I picked crystals and other rarities of the underground instead of hand-crafted gold delicacies (with the possible addition of war trophies for scale). A reminder of trolls' love for a quiet life and simple things, it also differentiates them from other Wesnoth races. The weapon would be a crude mass of raw iron, as trolls don't require anything elaborate to inflict cataclysmic damage. Plus, as a normally peaceful species, they would not give much importance to the looks of their weapons.

I swear, someday I'll drag a complete portrait out of that sketch

It's hammer time!
(The hand might be wrapped too tightly around the handle, any other mistakes?)

That is AWESOME, the hand does look raped to tightly around the handle and the hand looks a it to small for a troll but otherwise
