I'll see about a fiddle to fit the two together, perhaps.

:eng: Technically the troll's weapon would be considered a Maul, Which is a really big hammer. this increased striking force by increasing the wieght and making the handle longer. it would also give the hammer more physiological shock value. Mwhahaha!!!

Yeah, I felt like fiddling around with the Hero again. The following are Eternal's Hero, and my Great Troll.

The latter probably needs some major tweaking, but since i'm soon for sleep, any thoughts?

The head of the great troll does not look that much like the heads of the other trolls.

I fancied a challenge on differentiating them, so I decided against that same head-down-glowery look.

thespaceinvader, you are doing way too much stuff lately. And I don't think people in U.K. are on vacation right now, are they?

I really like that Great Troll, but it's hard to say where he has put his right hand. But why the Hero does not have the different head as well?

Shhh, do not complain, be happy!

I like this take much better or rather, I like it as much as I like the current troll. A little bit of differentiation between the trolls adds a bit of flavor and follows that as not all humans have the same heads (same general shape but with variation), the heads of other species could do the same.

Also, with the Troll Hero's head facing down, it is hard to completely tell exactly how it should be shaped seen from face-on.

The Great Troll's ears seem shorter than other Wesnoth Trolls'. Long ears feel like a distinctive feature for troll sprites, maybe you can try this.

For the great troll the head looks more to a bull than other trolls, but i think it's fine...
Anyway, on the top of the head there's a straight horizontal pixel line, maybe changing it could improve a little the result, i don't know...

I find the pose excellent, like those bodybuilders who swell their muscles to impress people, that's great, the belt descending on the chest makes him look different than other trolls too, and i think it's good.

On the other hand, the two have the same weapon, which on the opposite makes them look more the same.

For details i'll tell more shadow on the armlets (or more contrast in fact) maybe on the feet too (maybe the feet go well this way with a shadow, in this case don't take this comment)? But that's details...

That's good overall :D !

..Are we allowed to jump in and modify something if we want? I'm hoping so, cause I kinda just did, but tell me if we're not supposed to and I'll stop..

Basically all I did was lengthen the ears, finish out the top of the head, and work on the feet. Oh, and I softened the hi-lights a little bit. I think it looks better if you use a color other than white..

Yup, that's GPL. Feel free to do what you like with them - my main focus is portraits. If you fancy animating them, that would be even better.

But your edits look good =) thanks very much.

Eek, animating would be a challenge. I might take a stab at it sometime soon.

I started working on this a long time ago but I didn't have the time to continue.

I've now somewhat finished the body. The legs need to be bigger, it's obvious. Is there anything else wrong with it?

The arm stage right seems to sit a fair bit too far out from the body, like it's not quite connected enough. And yeah, the legs should be bigger, but you're aware of that. But i'd maybe flip the body round with relation to the head - at the moment he's got a very guarded stance WRT what he's looking at, which doesn't entirely fit the Great Troll being about the biggest, baddest 'ard nut in the game =) I know tyhat makes him similar to the others, but i think that's ok. possibly a bit fo costume distinction would help. The linked-rings belt and torso strap would be cool, as would the studded arm bands - we don't want him to have less bling than the Warrior, after all =P

I like your take on the head, too - it's noticeably different from the current ones. Great work.

tsr wrote:But seriously I can imagine them having upper-arm-bracelets or chest-plates as adornments but probably made out of a lesser metal than gold and obviously without any armor-value.
that would really help to fit the current description of troll hero and great troll. ("born with an exceptional share of the strength and vitality that characterizes their race" / "something extraordinary, a beast remembered for generations")

and i like the idea of giving the Troll Hero a more expensive looking weapon. Since he is doing more strikes with (a bit) less damage i guess it doesn't have to match the size of the trolls club.

maybe you could consider a two-sided war hammer for the Great Troll?
