show some tip/introction at lobby for newbies ?

Post by jingjang »

i think you need to show some tip/introction at lobby for newbies so they can read and understand about the addons system work. example that message will apper one time when they login to lobby, some tip about the most popular era is an example.

My game has broken a million when some newbies dont have era and we cant start the game with them

thx

This is a good idea imo,

The legend should be shown too (green games = you can join etc...)

Difficulty is for knowing who comes here for the first time and who don't...

Maybe a "help" button near the join/observe/create would be good?

No... I think the tutorial should add a section of Multiplayer Help... WITH picture help.

The best way to learn is to follow. In order to learn WML, you have to follow other's work, and check their codes.

I really think there should be some sort of tutorial for multiplayer, just that it should teach you about using the menus etc., too. I doubt this is easily do-able at the moment, though.

You talk of a mp section in the existing tutorial menu?

That seems odd to me, since a mp tutorial would mainly rely on pics not on gameplay.

Well, i took the initiative of creating a wiki page for it:

http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/MP_Tutorial

The page is linked from "getting started" and "MP code of conduct" so far.

I will continue a little today and tomorrow etc... of course you can contribute if you want to. (This is a wiki...) And maybe add links if you find it relevant...

And English correction would be greatly appreciated... :)

Thanks, bye.

I would suggest you upload the images as attachments and link to them. I don't like it that you have to click on the Icon to be able see anything.

Apologies for overstepping the bounds possibly, but I went to your page and did minor editing. Just changed some of the words used and sentence structure to make it more natural.

Most of the wiki tutorial is done:

http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/MP_Tutorial

Hope it will be useful. If you have some things to add, please do (for example I didn't remember what were orange games for, so i didn't write a thing about them...)

I would be glad if someone could do an English correction.

Thanks, see ya.

Read it through and corrected a few things, not bad, not bad at all. This could be used to educate new players rather quickly, and you covered all of the pertinent information.

if they cant figure out how to play on thier own... or even how to ask for help.... how on earth will they find that one page out of the entire wiki?

maybe at the end of the single player tutorial a list of clickable links could be displayed

"for more help check out blah blah blah"

Nice one.
I recommend editing the pic

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3613/lobby2mc8.png

so that the area numbers become a bit bigger. Couldn't find them at first. They should stand out a bit more.

Also: You list 4 sections in the lobby and name them in some table first.
But then you use different names for the actual paragraphs - which btw are only three. The player's list isn't explained (colors, sorting). Well, there is a tiny paragraph on this, but due to the numbering it should get a seperate heading.

Quick edit of the first line in the lobby: "Check out coc.wesnoth.org and http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/MP_Tutorial"

Done!

Edit: BTW i can't find a link to tell how to had friends to your config file (and i don't remember how to do this) so if someone knows it...
