First sprite
Hey I just made a sprite (kind of a ghosty thing) so I decided to post it here

Re: First sprite
Pretty good--It definitely gets the idea across.
Though, you probably don't want to use all black outlines--It flattens the image a little. Also, you want to revisit that shadow--It's got some random darker points in it (Shadows should be a flat 60% opacity black).

Re: First sprite
OK I fuzzed it up around the edges and lightend it up so you could see the mouth better.

Re: First sprite
Erm... Not quite what I meant. What I meant was, use darker versions of the base color for the outlines. Take a look at some of the mainline sprites, you should see what I'm talking about.

Re: First sprite
What I would do is get rid of the black outline and replace it with the main color. The I would use burn to darken the outline color enough to be thought of as an outline
Hope that helps

Re: First sprite
That will give you a darker outline, yes, but it's not the best way of going about it. You'll be better off just drawing the darker outline :/

Re: First sprite
It really matters what kind of sprite it is and what you are trying to do

Re: First sprite
Very nice for your first sprites. May I ask what you plan to use these for?
Also you should try using a larger variety of colors

Re: First sprite
Thanks I have been reading all of the tutorials on the art-wiki-page-create-thing, and I was planning a campaign or faction and I am thinking of making ice or fire spirits for this faction/campaign thing.

Re: First sprite
Pretty cool--Though, a few of the teeth look a little bit random there. Maybe if you had the pointing in more uniform directions?
Using the burn tool will work--But it's sort of like using only one material in a 3D modeling program. It's faster and easier, and looks sort of okay to most people, but you can never get something that actually looks good.
Also, you won't learn anything doing it, and what is drawing other than a learning process?

Re: First sprite
Well I am using gimp so I dont know if it has a burn tool. for the teeth I was try to get that random disjointed effect.

Re: First sprite
It does. I can't remember the hotkey, (mostly cos i rarely use the tool) but it's the one right at the bottom of the default toolset - looks like a black blob with a handle.

Re: First sprite
I think you'd be better off either making the mouth a little less regularly shaped, or varying teeth size and shape--As is, it looks a little like it got punched in the mouth
Anyway, do whatever works
