Sorry, had not seen it was addressed to kitty

"While portrait art may be where Wesnoth gets its glamour, and sprite art may be where Wesnoth gets its zest, it's the terrain art that's so crucial to Wesnoth's polish - it's the canvas that the rest goes on." Sangel

I can see how it wasn't clear - i didn't ask her by name, though i asked as an edit to a post addressing only points that she made... Alsi, you should be aware that it's a little early in the process to be making edits including final effects like those... Very much at the WIP stage currently. I'll add the effects once the shading is sorted.

i don't think i have some very special method to do the effects. just painting, low opacity, lots of layers and some fancy layer modes... here is what i did for the dark wizard. if you have questions just ask and i can do the effects on the augur, too if you tell me what colour/general direction, if you want to.

I finally found a little spare time =D
C+C welcome. I'm happy with this, though.

Nice.
I'm a bit bothered by the staff's top. It looks like a spoon at first glance.
Namely a dessert spoon.

thespaceinvader, that is a great deal of improvement in 2 weeks from rough drawings to finished product. I especially like the detail, the little bits such as the bracelet and the necklace, or the baubles hanging from the now tightened straps. Even the detail on the bottom part of his clothing is very nicely done.
Kudos on getting the magic effect down as well. Shadow Master is just hungry.

I'm open to changing the shape of the gem, but i do want to keep it irregular and smooth, like a polished pebble. I can't say i see the resemblance much though.

I think he was referring more to the shape? For me I do not particularly see the dessert spoon as I do just that it appears concave (due to shape and shading), but if it's supposed to be irregular, then all good by me.

Very good work!
Though, the more I look at the right arm, the more it feels wrong to me. I think possibly it has something to do with the thickness of the arm right before it goes into the sleeve? I'm not sure, though. You probably want a second, more valid opinion, anyway.

I like the sleeves of the robe a lot. The staff does not bother me, but the metal on the should does. I think the positioning and shape of the metal on the shoulder may be wrong but shading is definitely wrong. Also, the amount of pure white on the tail seems unjustified, considering the light source. Also, the triangles on the back have a strong color that stands out too much and look a couple of them at the base of the tail look too 2-dimensional and/or tacked on.

Re: Since I don't have an active topic ATM... Portraits!
the shading has really improved your augur! i really love how his head and facial expression turned out!
but time for some nitpicking:
- shoulderpads: his right one works and looks good - but what's going on with the other one? i don't understand the shape, the material and how it is fixated.
- staff: the design of his entire robe (with all those moons) looks very elaborate - and now you have suddenly a shamanistic staff - why? i'd say carry the clothing and jewelery design over to the staff! and even if you want to keep the top - why is the lower half just an ordinary stick?
- skin: - the head's skin is well done. scaly and moist. but the leg's and tail don't work that well, they look rather like plastic with some white dots ontop... give them more love!
you've already gone far - push him further!

Re: Since I don't have an active topic ATM... Portraits!
The shoulder pad is meant to be bronze. It needs some re-shading, i agree.
I'm open to redesigning the staff, though i do want to keep the irregular, pebbl-y gem for the head. I'm not entirely sure what to do with the rest of it, though.
I'm not sure how to improve the legs, and tail, tbh - it wants a little more texture, but it's quite difficult, i've found, to add it realistically without making the scales way too large. I'm going for a close-grained, shiny (not moist) texture. Can you provide any suggestions?
