Seeking a Collaborator
Hello Wesnoth. I've never posted here before, and am fairly new to Wesnoth, so forgive me if I haven't done everything right in this post... let me get straight to the point.
I'm looking for someone willing to give me a hand in making a campaign. I've written a script and story, and have several maps designed with objectives planned. The problem is I can't code. That is what I am looking for. Someone to code my campaign.
Anyway, my campaign is an attempt to give Wesnoth more story. It tells of a great war between the Dwarves and Elves in the prehistory of Wesnoth, before the coming of men. I hope the daunting concept won't scare off any potential coders... I intend to have large maps designed for massive ammounts of troops, a sort of siege and of course, a story. Getting back to the story, the player will control the Dwarves. This war is sparked when the Dwarves begin to build a road through The Great Forest, an ancient version of the Wesmere. The elves, being lovers of nature, grow angry when the dwarves prepare to cut down the Great Tree. And thus, a stupid (but aren't they all?) war begins...
So, is anyone interested in giving me a hand on this? I can have all of the maps prepared in a couple of days, methinks.

Found anyone yet?
Your idea sounds interessting. I'd really like to help you code your campaign, but I'm somewhat new myself and I still have a lot to learn about WML coding. So this would be a great chance for me to learn.
Anyway, if you prefere some more experienced coder I'd understand that. Just let me know.
Alternatively, what about using that opportunity to learn WML coding yourself?
It's not that difficult.

I would recommend you learn the WML if you still can't find someone. It's fun. Unless you need to implement novel, new features it's easy too.
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Create is the official introduction. http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=22321 seems to contain a campaign skeleton. If you don't understand a particular tag the wiki should clear it up. But IMO the best resource for WML is the rather large library of campaigns, mainline or otherwise, that you can look at. You can also post questions in the WML forums.
Oh and if you're not planning to use mainline factions (seeing that they're "prehistoric" dwarves and elves) you should use some user made factions, rather than creating your own and then asking for art. The artists here all seem to be tied up.

Re: Seeking a Collaborator
Hi and welcome to the forums.
You don't really need to know how to "code" to make a Wesnoth campaign. WML is pretty simple. I would recommend trying to write your campaign yourself, and publish it. If it's much good, you'll have a much higher chance of finding someone to collaborate with.
Generally asking for people who don't know you to commit to helping you with something is unlikely to be successful unless they've actually seen and enjoy what you're working on.

The best way to ask for help, is doing your part first. Compare this:Dave wrote:Generally asking for people who don't know you to commit to helping you with something is unlikely to be successful unless they've actually seen and enjoy what you're working on.
a)
Q: "I want to make a campaign about great war between the Dwarves and Elves in the prehistory of Wesnoth, before the coming of men... Would you help me with WML?"
A: "It depends."

Q: "I want to make a campaign about great war between the Dwarves and Elves in the prehistory of Wesnoth, before the coming of men... Here is the first map. I would like to display a dialog at the beginning, like this ... ... ... but I do not understand WML. Also I made a map in the map editor, but I am not sure how to create a campaign, where it would be the first scenario. Here is the map attached. Would you help me convert it to campaign, and write the starting dialog?"

A: "OK, here it is. I hope this is what you wanted; if not, tell me what should be done differently."
