Re: The Era of Myths: 2 years old, handing over for a while.
Please stop reporting errors involving DOS-style files, Windows-style filenames and all of that, as all that stuff is resolved in the SVN version...
Re: The Era of Myths: 2 years old, handing over for a while.
Or just test with SVN HEAD.
Re: The Era of Myths: 2 years old, handing over for a while.
Velensk, I have just started to play your campaign....I am very pleasantly surprised!!!
The first scenario alone was a treat, and the start of the second is also quite engrossing. I am quite tempted to put some of my time into helping the EoM project again.
The music selection is fantastic, and I had forgotten how good the sprites were.
Truly a well done compilation thus far. I am looking forward to finishing more.

JW, if you wanna help me maintain the EoM just ask AI for SVN write access to the CUMC's SVN repository. Please note, you need a SourceForge account...
I would greatly appreciate some help.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
I just want to thank Jester, if he even frequents these forums anymore, for helping me start this project so long ago. If it wasn't for his Werewolf faction and his proposed Vampires, the Shifters never would have found a home and created such a widely popular download. The era has really come a long way since those beginning stages thanks to the help and input of so many people.
Thank you Espreon for continuing to enhance this great multiplayer era, and thank you Velensk for your help, and your single player campaign.
I'm glad that something I helped create here still has some value to the community.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
I'm glad you liked it.
I have just released the first section of The War of the Dragon. It's part one out of three. It is 8 senarios, 7 of which are combat.
It plays diffrently than most campains in that you are only able to recruit units, when it would make sense that you would be able to do so, the rest of the time, you have to recall units. There are also a few other things I wanted to play around with. This campain is designed to be hard. If it is not hard, then I'd like to know so that I can fix that.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
I am first-timer playing EoM. Are some races in this mod supreriour to others or am I just hallucinating?
Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
Which ones? I don't think anyone has claimed the EoM to be perfectly balanced so I'm sure your input could help get it closer.Azhur wrote:I am first-timer playing EoM. Are some races in this mod supreriour to others or am I just hallucinating?
Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
First sorry if I bring Extended Era also to this thread, hope you have knowledge of that mod.
My friend thinks vampires are a bit too strong (their lvl 0 unit costing 6 gold is supreriour to Devlings lvl 0 10 gold unit) and elementalists seem a bit on the weakish side. And what's the overall deal with Devlings, they seem very weak compared to anyone. Am I missing someting crucial?

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
Definatly. Devilings are overpowered when used correctly against some enemies. Somewhere in the deapths of this thread are a few replays on that subject. However, the problem with devlings is that if things turn against you, it is very hard to recover because your men die very easy. However when it gets down to it, devlings can do a huge amount of damage for their cost, if they can get enough hexsides. They also are one of the best village stealing factions in the game. I realy fail to see how the bloodborn is superior to the curser. The only area where it realy beats the curser is in hp, and I'd say that is more than ofset by the cursers magical cold attack.
As far as elementals being weak, that's a tough one. I know for a fact that elementals are very tough to use properly, and that when used properly (especialy the wind servents), they have a number of advantages. However I also think that it's possible against some enemies, with an opponent who knows what he is doing, that they'd be underpowered anyways. One such enemy was windsong, so I made a few changes to try to change that.
You need to provide replays, and choose specific faction match-ups to say are unbalanced, rather than just saying 'this is overpowered' 'these seem a little weak'.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
If there are coders who would like to help cleanse the EoM and whatnot please grab a SF.net account and ask AI, Shadow Master or esr for access to the CUMC SVN repository.
Help would be highly appreciated.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
Alright, I'll get an account.

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
Just out of curiosity, how is balance being pursued? Are we testing on EOM only maps, or on default maps as well?
I was also thinking that removing Devlings as a playable faction in the main era would make balance easier; their concept is really hard to work around.***
Anyway, I was wondering what the current status is, or at least what your opinions are of the matchups and under what circumstances the factions are to be balanced.
I was considering making an EOM era where maps are played with different gold settings and the stats are far different from mainline levels, as in higher.
***they would remain in a separate era in the dl called "EOM complete" or something. Perhaps Elementals as well, and just focus on the other 5 until they are "balanced."

Re: The Era of Myths (EoM)
Right now I'm not persueing it. However I do have a map-pack of maps specificaly so that I could balance EoM to its own maps (though they use ordinary settings).
Splitting EoM into two factions is an interested Idea that might have merit. This might also allow us to include other fitting factions such as Meolons nightmares.
