Though perhaps you didn't know better... The AI is by no means accurate in determining balance of any sort of multiplayer map... :|

This is common knowledge. Balancing is more than just watching as a few AI battle to the death. True balancing takes many games of playtesting between more experienced players, and a good knowledge of terrain layout, village distribution, P1 advantage... etc. As such... I find no use in that feature. :?

I am aware that the AI can't replace playtesting, but still it can give you hints whether the map is really unbalanced or fairly balanced. I tried it out a bit and extreme imbalanced maps are actually discovered by the AI. And it was mostly intended to check if there is a Player 1 advantage, which I think the AI can detect as well. And its not watching a few AI battles, it simulates 50 battles per 10 minutes(or a bit less, depending on the machine I think).
Still I'd like to have some feedback to the other features, and which features you'd like to have, so I can improve it.

EDIT: The new home of the Wesnoth Map Symmetrizer where development is made and the new releases will be published is https://gna.org/projects/wesnoth-sym/

I still hold the opinion that any meaningful balancing is going to come by games through experienced players. If you'd like to discuss the issue of AI showing the "balance" of a map... I would ask that you keep it to PM's, as it wouldn't be very relevant to the point of the creation of this thread.

As for the symmetrizer, some will use it, some won't. I just prefer my method of manual duplication as I am more accustomed to using it. :)

Could you please tell me exactly what you've installed and done afterwards? Thank you!

I installed the thing you putted in Sourceforge. I installed it in "E:\Battle for Wesnoth 1.4.4\Wesnoth Map Symmetrizer" And then double klicked the "mirror_horizontal" thing. Then there is a black box like in everything I open (well not everything but most things) but it disappears right away. :(

Ah I see, you have to double-click on "interface" to open up the graphical interface.

actually, you *can* already do this "symmetrization" in editor2 (in a recent 1.5 Wesnoth)
- select the part of the map you want. Use a large selection brush so you don't waste time, and remember the right mouse deselects if you select too much.
- copy
- paste (puts you in the paste mode)
- rotate clipboard 3 times
- click to paste. Pasting accuretely might be a problem, but you should get it where you need it after a few tries. I'll try to make it easier in 1.5.5.

edit: to paste large pastes accurately, just zoom out!
