Castle floor

Post by scott »

Has this been fixed? I thought it was an easy fix so here is what I came up with. I remember a complaint about it but not if someone took care of it, so I took a crack. The black lines are now grey, but they're less noticeable. I'll continue to refine if I'm not duplicating someone's effort.

I actaully like the new gray lines. I think castles should appear like they are tiled rather than one solid block of granite. I say Switch to the grey lines and dont make them any less noticable than that.
In the new one you have there, they look intentional, and i think they look better than one slab of rock would look.

It looks better. But I'm not really fond of these floors at all to begin with. But as long as you're working on them, do you think you could get rid of that ugly white in the bottom right?

Alright, try this. I also took the edge off of the spot in the lower-middle-right, but kept the overall brightness. Someone with talent, not just motivation, needs to come along and do it properly. All I'm doing is making it more uniform, which is easy and visually boring.

Why not giving it a more tiled look?

I don't mean something you can easily tell two hexes apart. But several tiles in one hex...

Hrm, if anyone understands what I mean, please, say so.

I think I do...

you mean to make the floor look as it it had (real) tiles in the hex, the hex would have small tiles in them that would cleanly continue to the next hex...

BTW, multi-tile might help here too

If there's anything the castle tile needs, it's color. As it is, when selecting a unit, you can't tell if it can get in.

Ok, does anybody like this? I think this is the right direction to go, but it needs some suggestions. One problem is that the floor tiles are bigger than the castle bricks. It also doesn't quite match up on the edges, but without the vertical line artifacts you wouldn't really notice.

One benefit is that it does do a good job of showing moves.

Yes, this is moving in the right direction.
It's a bit too "loud" (or contrasty) right now.
Browns might be a better choice than blues for color. (as if its a stone floor that has dirt tracked all over it)
perhaps more variety in the mini-tile size?
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

I think that that new one draws to much attention compared to other tiles.

I think that castles should catch your attention.

The floor is too busy. My eye should jump to induvidual units, not too the floor in the background.
