How about something like this for the northerners?

IMHO it would fit the Northerners style better if it looked more messy and disheveled. Orcs aren't a particularly clean and civilized race as I remember. But nice work. :)

Another version, by letting it hang in a chain it looks a lot less civilized right?

Well, I've looked at it, but I won't comment as I don't have the ability in these stuff, unless if it's very obvious. Personally, I like it. Better wait for Jetryl et al.
Take a breath.

Next time use a tighter brush so that you can put everything in a smaller canvas. ;) But mameluke's concept is nice and more fitting to the northerners anyway.

I was kind of hoping i wouldn't have to do something that cliche.
But sure i can bow to popular demand, i will do something that is in that style this weekend or next week.

Is it possible to make a flag with bloodstains? Because I was wondering if maybe instead of just some random skull on a stick. Maybe there could be a flag that is maybe on a bone pole, or with maybe some bits of bone hanging off. As well as some bloodstains.

Just my opinion.

Too many bones, and it begins to look like something people would associate with the undead... Something a little tatty, but in general good order, with a skull of some description on top would look good.

But why does everytime a orc has a flag theres a skull on a stick (flag included of course). I'm not saying that it needs to be covered in bones or have eyballs or something like that (which might be cool but I don't think it falls into the ethics of the game). I'm just saying that the skull on the top happens so often. Can't wesnoth be different?

Well, but a skull on a stick is a rather generic symbol of a cross-culture nature just like the ankh or a flag or a crown, and so it is no more cliche (or to be avoided) than having a king wear a crown.

Too bad if it is too much associated with orcs, but it seems to be best fitting to them because there doesn't seem any other mainline faction of the "savage tribe" type.

I don't want to argue too much in favour of it (in fact I'd like the original flag idea a lot if the cloth was a bit more ragged, stitched and/or patched), but I don't like it at all to purposefully avoid a well-fitting symbol just because it is cliched and one wants to be different (at least until cliched races like orcs, elves and dwarves [don't forget dragons and sea serpents] are dropped altogether).

i think too that skull is too undead-related. perhaps with 2 horns instead, something like this:

An idea strikes - the orcs' helms are fairly distinctive, particularly the grunt line. Why not top the flag staff with one of those?
