Can I either download or purchase the BfW music

Post by mamadu.bwana »

Hi,

I am new to the BfW game, which I like very much, but the music I find absolutely *superb*! Is there somewhere I could either download or purchase all the music in the latest BfW version (I have version v1.2.6 for Ubuntu GNU/Linux)

I suppose the music is released under the GPL or something similar, right?

Many thanks in advance,

Mamadu

PS: were can I learn more about the composer(s) and the recording(s)?

If you have wesnoth installed, you can also find the music in /path/to/wesnoth/data/core/music (strip out the 'core/' for 1.2)

thanks for the link!! I am downloading them right now (but I did not have them in my Wesnoth folder even though I have the game, and plenty of addons, installed).

Cheers,

*Jospeh G. Toscano (Zhaytee):

My God, there is so much talent here!! You guys need to consider making a CD for sale together or, at the very least, to advertise this music for download on the Internet. What a remarkable collaborative success the music for BfW is!

That's actually a very good idea for drawing funds for the new server :)

Well, now that you mention it, the server does have some issues for sure; for example, it appears not have a hard time accepting the high amount of connections it receives.

But I also think that the guys who composed this music deserve far more recognition.

Can anybody tell us how they got together for the BfW score? Did they just agree to give their music to the game, or did they write that stuff specifically for BfW?

What is the history of this amazing collaborative effort?

Well, I can't really speak for anyone else, but I love composing and I really like playing the game and I decided to contribute. I don't know any of the other composers except through this forum.

The music is indeed excellent.

Basically way back in about Wesnoth 0.3, four and a half years ago, I added support for music. Not having any music, I emailed an artist named ZhayTee who agreed to produce some music for Wesnoth. He produced some great stuff for her.

As time went on, different people contributed music. Some was great, some not so great. As Wesnoth became better and better, several good musicians were attracted and began contributing. At some point we decided we had enough music that we could discard all but the best. We appointed Aleksi and West as music developers, in charge of deciding what got in and what didn't.

The music is definitely one of the best aspects of Wesnoth.

Thanks for the background on this fantastic effort.

The amazing thing for me is not only that the BfW project could attract some phenomenally gifted composers, but that this diverse group of composers could produce a very wide variety of compositions which still do have an internal consistency, a common 'feel' to them. There definitely is, I think, a BfW-style of music and that is also a huge achievement.

Thanks a lot to all of you!

If you are talking of the times pre-West, you sure meant Aleksi and TimothyP.
