Wish for followers to leaders

Post by luna »

It's been some time now, that I was thinking it would be nice in some mp-games if there would be followers to the leader. Meaning that if the leader of one side dies, AI or the player would/could assign the leadership to any other unit of that side. So, in fact, any side would only really be defeated and lost if none are left of them. I figure this would be pritty realistic since in most societies I know about there is always a follower, that is a new leader, if the former leader dies.

I wonder how ppl think about this.

Sorry, I've just realised there is a special topic for wishes. Could someone move this post to that topic plz.

Test the "Hall of Lame"-Addon.
the Hall of Lame Objectives wrote:If your Leader dies a new one will rise from your remaining units.
(if you look into the WML you can see, that the highest level Unit will be you new Leader)
While this is a good idea for UMCs* i don't think this could ever change for the normal games.

Thanks Lizrad
I tried it and its quite fun. Only I think this could work for other mp maps ,too. But I agree that it should not be default, especially not for campaigns. But mabe it could be used as an option for multiplayer games so the host could choose wheterher he wants leaders to have followers or not.

Maybe it's possible to add this into an era. Each unit get an die event which checks if the unit canrecruit and if yes choose a new Leader. The only problem would be that there would be many many times the same event, which would eat a lot memory. Is there an easier way? You/Someone could easily copy the default era and add this macro(the die event) via a script to every unit.

Leader dies ... you loose .. this is one of the base rules of wesnoth atm

If we look at a MP game with teams ... if my teams wins when my leader is already dead .. i get the message that i lost !!!

This could be considered a bug or a feature ...

But since people often posted similar ideas, im sure it would be very nice to solve this by extending this hard coded mechanism so that in a MP game players can choose different winning conditions (we all can list some logick ones), and campaings can set this with a single flag.

Uhm. It's not hard coded, and scenarios do set this with a single tag. That single tag just says "leader dies = you lose" in all the standard MP maps.

no offend, but for my point of view, having a switch to turn on/off a given logicdoes not change that the logic is hard coded.

It's coded into the default scenarios. You can make your own scenarios, using the same maps if you want, and have different win/lose conditions. Hardcoded means it's in the C++ coding. When it's WML, all you have to do is open up a text editor, and change a few lines.
