Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums

Re: Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums
The browser resizes the topic icon because the image tag within the tamplate still contain the width and height of 19x18 pixel allthough the new icons have different sizes. As you can see within the image attached this does not look nice.Mist wrote:No. Even if you meant 'add' dimenision attributes to images within forum cells. Icons within cells are not scaled, they are normal size when smaller than cell or cut when larger. And cell sizes have to have set dimensions to keep the forum table coherent.
Just remove the width and height attributes of the image tags that represent the topic icon and all should work. I know that the dimensions of the table cells cannot be changed because of forum layout. But changing the image dimensions (or removing them) does not harm layout.
Make this:
Code: Select all
<img src="./styles/subsilver2/imageset/topic_unread.gif" alt="New posts" title="New posts" height="18" width="19">

Re: Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums
Forum read, and forum unread images are to similar, I can barely tell them apart, could you perhaps have an open book or something?
Re: Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums
Okay, some comments regarding the icons:
* Forum read/unread are too similar. Would it be possible to have an open and a closed book there? This would be a lot easier to see.
* The sticky look too similar to the read posts. The two nails are not easy enough visible to detect them on first sight. In general I think that read posts, read sticky and read announcement look too similar, though for the announcement this ain't no big problem because it is in a separate section anyway. Still it would be better to have easier to distinguish icons for those three cases.
The good stuff:
* Unread posts / read post are perfect.
* The crown with the movement balls make distinguishing of read and unread messages a lot easier than just the crowns, great improvement.
* The icons look *great*.

Re: Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums
DP for moved topic. This doesn't appear to have read and unread forms...
Edit: huh. That looks kinda terrible, now that I look at it. Anybody have any ideas for a better metaphor I could use here?

The most obvious thing not yet replaced in the key is "popular" read/unread.

The new icons look great
.
I have one issue with the forum ones though... I want to click on and read the open books, not the closed ones. They've already been opened for me, even
.
(to clarify: I think the closed / open book icons that signify whether a forum has unread posts or not should be swapped)

I disagree. If they're open, you've already read them. At least that's how I see it. A swap would confuse people already used to the new icons.mesilliac wrote:The new icons look great.

Re: Wesnoth-Like icons for the Forums
Much more intuitive, IMO, is open=unread, closed=read. This is especially so because an open book takes up more room than a closed one and looks more important, and you want your attention drawn to the unread stuff, not the read stuff. (Though since the open books have white pages and that kind of blends in with the background, perhaps this isn't entirely valid...)

So, I have no idea how to do this, how does one draw a popular piece of paper? ^^;
.-. I have no idea. Well, I leave the choice to Rhuvaen: here're the books with the ribbons switched.turin wrote:Much more intuitive, IMO, is open=unread, closed=read.
