I'm not saying you two are wrong though. Thanks, I'll try to keep it in mind.

In any case, something else was wrong with the subcommander base sprite. I think this is better:
What we mean is that your sprites look more like the base game sprites if they are sharp.

There's sharp and then there is pixel-y, but I'll look into it. Thanks.

Along those lines, here are the three leader units in context with some other units. I've revised the veteran sprite (bottom most), the previous version looked like a fat clown.

Sorry, but this is blurry.

Touched up the face and shield of the veteran and face of the subcommander. This is it.

Here is a "signalman" (fighter, similar to Extended's chaos knight). Hopefully it looks like the ax is resting on his shoulder, I had trouble with that.

Flareman (L3) and seeress (L2). Just four or five more sprites to go (assuming these are OK).

It looks a bit blurry - I think it's because of the number of shades you use. If you limit your colour palette it might not look this way. I'm not sure it currently fits the Wesnoth style.

As hard as fire animations are to make, I still don't think there is enough movement in the animation. Fire is usually very lively, rather than just the end of it flicking back and forth.

Otherwise, looks good.

rod: I find the talk about blurriness to be mysterious, but your comment about too many shades clears things up a bit. Thanks. I see your point about the fire. There should probably be more than two frames anyway.

Here are two more sprites and an updated tree. Only two more sprites to go. Then they need to be cleaned up and animated.

I find it quite strange to see factions where the regular soldier is destined to become a leader. Perhaps an 'elite' branch from the veteran that is just an improved swordsman?

I think it quite usual personally, if you had to be a certain kind of soldier, then everyone would be that, neglecting the other soldier types.

The only line from the veteran is the leaders. Imagine a platoon of generals. Of course you'd have units from other lines, but the veteran is the 'normal soldier' the same way the Loyalist Spearman/Swordsman/Pikeman is the normal soldier.

Thanks for the comments. The fighter line does have a non-leader branch, maybe I need to change the names. Or, as you say, there could be yet another branch. I'll consider it - after all: the more, the merrier.

In the meantime, I took a stab at the hawkeye sprite. I'm getting burned out on sprites so I may need to redo this one.

Huric needs a real portrait, so I've started on that.

Huric scaled down to the correct size.

The start of General Maskov, although this could be any loyalist officer.

This was supposed to be Lorenzon, but he's looking too thoughtful. I think it will be the veteran portrait instead. Lorenzon gets the older version.
