Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
Here's an animation attempt for the angry villager. Only the torch attack for now, two versions. Also, defence frame.
Can I keep posting these here or should I start my own thread?
EDIT: removed the torch version without the pitchfork, added gif.

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
The fire ought to be burning in the same direction right the way through - up and slightly backwards. Having it flip round during the defence animation makes it look like a blob of orange plasticine, and not fire. Fire's extremely difficult to draw and animate, though, and you're getting there. Nice work. But don't forget that for the attack frame, his feet MUST move - the sprite image will be moving towards the enemy during this animation, and if he doesn't move his feet he will appear to be sliding across the floor.

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
Actually, it's all a frankenstein of:
-rogue body (and it's attack and defend stance)
-thug head (including it's own sweatdrops)
-villager pitchfork
-pillager's torch (which only has 2 real stances, attack and 'normal', which I flipped around for defence)
The only actual drawing I did was filling up some areas covered by the rogue's dagger swipe and such.
Point is:
-the rogue moves this way when attacking/defending
-the torch looks that way on the pillager, the flipping of the firetrail looks reasonable to me if you take it to be similar to a motionblur.

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
o_O so it does. That's not something i've noticed before (blame accelerated anims, I guess) but it looks odd to me.
I'll retract my points about movement, then. But i still think the fire looks more solid than anything. bear in mind when looking for reference that fixing the Pillager's fire animations to including a standing animation, and light halos is something on the list of things to do for mainline - currently its fire doesn't look all that good.
Still good work, though (and, i assume, useful for this mystery project of BB's...

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
It is also useful for a future mystery project of my own.
I'm going to try some fire animation now, but don't expect too much.

Very nice! I'd just like to note that i changed the Bandit's beard (or mask) to match his hair for the base sprite, the defense sprite you have there has his beard changing colors.

Ah, good point.

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
Change the torch location so it doesn't look like he's hitting himself
Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
Maybe defend with the pitchfork instead.

feminized melon's archer a bit.
Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
Looks good, looks a lot more feminine now.
Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
I've made a female variation of my villager, and slightly edited the original.

Very nice, but i think the girl should have a darker, lighter or different hair color. Right now it looks like her skin. Which is gross.rod wrote:I've made a female variation of my villager, and slightly edited the original.

The Federalist Skirmisher. Hope he isn't too rag-tag to be a government-conscripted light infantryman.

Re: Blueblaze's Mysterious Thread [Remotivificationry]
As far as his design is concerned, he looks good. Just be careful not to make your units too short, as I've noticed they keep shrinking into smaller than dwarf size. Might want to double check all of the smaller sprites and make sure you're keeping them as tall as the current Spearman unit.
