lvl 2 Death Knight franken(furter)

Post by Neoskel »

Frankened with old idea for Death Knight and the head of of Shadow Master's Death Baron/Death Squire.

I think it fits and looks lvl 2 enough.

Don't ask me to animate it or anything, i just do frankensteining...

Nice, but I thought Shadow Master's was just fine...

SMs one is made of bits from other units like the Loyalist General and Swordsman and his stock axe which he uses in everything. All the graphics used in mine were made especially for use in the Death Knight (or Death Baron in the case of the head) by other people. Last i checked mainline sprites look a lot better when they can't be immediately recognizable as using another units (separate line) parts, not to mention that it matches the Death Knight because it uses parts meant for it.

I mean yeah he has some animations for it already, but he himself stated doubt in it.

I hope i didn't sound conceited or anything there, just pointing out stuff and trying to contribute.

Double post for new proposed base sprite

Removed the cape and bumped the head down a little.

Something feels missing without the robes.

Please note, that the only reason because of which I made my own Death Baron made of easily recognizable parts of loyalist units, is because it is used exactly for that, as a Loyalist Lieutenant that turns into undead during night, in a scenario of Liberty.

I thought (and zookeeper seemed to agree) that it would a good effect that it looked similar to the Lieutenant.

Anyway, you are free to do what you want with these. If it turns to be better it'd be great and someone would be willing to animate it. I just miss the robes.

They're both just options really. Someone mentioned that they wanted to see a lvl 2 Death Knight for multiplayer so i thought i'd oblige. I kinda prefer the first one myself.

It is nice, but somehow the legs look like wooden sticks rather than armour legs; not because of their texture and colour, but because of the shading and lack of articulation (i.e. the pose could be more dynamic).

The recolor you provided is nice - I've made a few edits, which hopefully flesh things out.

All hail the mighty Jetryl, great salvager of unskilled art!
:D

Edit: Um, that didn't come out right. Unskilled frankensteining, both eternal and shadow master are very skilled.

Wrong.

Jetryl's edit helps the franken a lot, perhaps I try to animate this one instead.

Now don't be like that. You're certainly more skilled than me.

IMO the death-squire should clutch his axe and shield closer to his body. The legs also should be closer together. It'll add a bit more difference between the squire and the baron anyway.

Then someone needs to animate them...

The squire and the baron are the same unit. Just different name. Read the thread title: "lvl 2 Death Knight franken(furter)"

Too big?

Post by Ancalagon »

To my mind, the latest one looks a little to powerful, beefy, and important to be Level 2. You might want to make it look a little less commanding and sure of itself. It is after all, an underling. If you compare the Death Baron and Death Knight pictures to the Elvish Lord and Elvish High Lord pictures, there is a noticable difference. The Elvish Lord, who is probably more important than the Death Baron, looks far less imposing and mighty. However, this could just be my perception of it - I am not a very talented artist.

Actually, this is the same impression I have... like, the Death Knight could be level 4 and this sprite a level 3. However, I haven't had time to animate this and other sprites. When I animate stuff, I usually modify the baseframes too (the few opportunities that I have had to do it, though).
