I would assume yes.
Hm, so far over half of Wesnoth geeks are Mac users

bear: Mac computers may use a wide variety of OSes: MacOS, of course, but also GNU/Linux, most *BSDs, BeOS...

Possibly, but I would imagine that Mac users are more likely to vote in the poll than non-Mac-users. I think that most people take special interest in a post if they see their platform mentioned, and most people are especially uninterested in a post if they see a platform they have never used as its primary topic.

For a 'platform neutral' poll, see http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=380 -- it's old, but showed that only ~15% of Wesnoth users played primarily on Mac. Perhaps we should redo that poll to see what things look like now. I have little doubt that the Mac user base has grown, but it'd be interesting to see by how much.

Personally, I think you'd have to be nuts to buy a Mac and put Linux on it. You can get perfectly good PC hardware very cheaply if you want Linux; the reason the Mac excels is its tight integration of hardware and OS. But nevermind that.

I continue to find it amazing how multiplatform the forums here are. I don't think any one platform outnumbers the others significantly - we seem to have Windows, Mac and Linux fairly evenly represented - maybe even some BeOS folk. That's very cool, in my opinion.

What I find interesting from that poll was the Windows percentage. Only 12% of Wesnoth users play it on Windows.

BTW can someone explain the point of time-limits on polls? If that poll had not been time-limited then we could have just bumped it...

I think one idea is to have 'closure' on a poll, and 'final results'. Also with polls like that, the platform one uses can shift.

I can see the point in having never-ending polls though. Perhaps we should start a new platform poll though? I don't think it's necessary to divide all the GNU/Linux distributions though. Just Mac, Windows, GNU/Linux, BeOS, FreeBSD, Solaris, Other (Unix-based), and Other.

[OT] Running Linux on Mac hardware

Unless you want to have a cheap, good and very comfortable Linux laptop. I’m currently running Debian on an IBM ThinkPad, and it’s really great, but if I wanted to buy myself a new one I’d at least consider getting an iBook.

What's the point of this topic? Because of Wesnoth's multi-platform-friendly nature it shouldn't matter what OS we use except when it comes to reporting technical problems.
I just don't see the point in seeing how many "Mac playas" there are... I mean it just doesn't matter: Any player on any OS can play against any other player on any OS.

OK, this is a fair point. Apple makes nice laptops. Unfortunately, they only have one button on the trackpad, which is not a problem for me, as I use a mouse, but can put some people off.

Trackpads put me off in general; ThinkPads’ TrackPoints are The Only True Way (when you can’t use a mouse, that is).

To make it at least a bit on-topic: I play Wesnoth using just TrackPoint a lot.
