40% grey isn't sufficient to highlight all terrains for the official build; but any user is able to replace darken.png if he wants,

JW / TL - You know, from looking at your arguments, you guys both basically agree with each other, you're just getting hung up on the semantics. Let's all hug and be friends, okay?

We get enough bad vibes around here as it is. :|

I don't necessarily want to argue what a unit represents, but this particular argument is not that good. Take a look at the following examples taken from RL:

Tank division (not tanks)
Fighter squadron (not Fighters)
Bomber division (not Bombers)
etc etc
The use of singular just means uniformity of weaponry in a given unit, not number of entities in it.

Why not just look at it as a chess or any other board game? Ofcourse you get the problem of representing campaign (in some cases) but this system wasn't really meant to be Realistic by its visuallity in the first place, and the process of fighting really doesn't allow the stimulation of massive battles consisting of 20 000 soldiers, so its all SUBJECTIVE, based on users own imagination, not the idea of game design...you don't ask why queen can move throughout whole chess board and the soldier cant, but in this case some of you take chess and try to reinact an event, like a battle, ofcourse it wont be realistic - if you feel that u must imagine the chess figure as a squad of 100 soldiers and queen as a sepparate super killing machine-hero, just do it! Also adding the animation to each chess figure according to its name really just adds to imaginative potential, while making landscape based on real relicts just adds more... :?

Oh and my (possible) explanation of name/qualities of a unit when looking at it as a squad - the units animation might represent the average soldier of group, the one that best represents overal quality of that group, like - "Our division fights bravely and can travel big distances easily, just look at the example of Oklichtarxon the quick and brave!" ;D, but this doesnt mean there arent any slow and cowardly, just that most of them arent like that.

And "whole squad going at same speed = not reallistic" - well its abstract too, in war fast ones go ahead, tired ones go in back or get helped by others. =]

Oh come on, that's ridiculous. Where do you see Elvish Archer Battalion? And how many units does your leader represent in campaigns? How many Konrad's are there?

I always imagine everything at about 100-300 units per peice depending on what type of peice.
Konrad is Konrad and his personal gaurd and such. Groups as a whole don't always act the same, some are more resiliant some quicker or stronger, so I don't have problems with traits for groups.

It may not take everything into acount logicaly, however the prospect of having epic battles with less than 100 people per side does not make any sense either.

I'd personaly rather have inconsitancies such as the void plate armoring all of lisar's body gaurds, a whole regiment of knights getting knocked out by a knock on the head when the enemy ran over their post, or any other such things than imagine my conflicts as being so small. It's just not as fun at that scale.
"There are two kinds of old men in the world. The kind who didn't go to war and who say that they should have lived fast died young and left a handsome corpse and the old men who did go to war and who say that there is no such thing as a handsome corpse."

Thats not the issue... I think the darken.png should be changed in official download.
