Hidden faction

Simple suggestion, which may or may not appeal.
But instead of people picking 'random' so that you don't know who you are up against, you could also have a check box at game creation which simply says "hide factions" and then you cant see what people are picking.

Advantage:

1. still get suspense of not knowing your opponent
2. retain advantage of being able to pick who you want to play

Much I think of this idea hangs on your thinking behind random. If random is a way of promoting random [because of the advantage of hidden factions] then I suppose its fine just the way it is...?

What the heck is up with how many people have suggested this recently? I had never seen it mentioned in four years here until last month, and suddenly we've had what, five threads about it?

Actually it's been suggested every now and again for a long time. But, in the last month or so there's been a spike for some reason...

Is this some massive conspiracy to get another item listed on the FPI?

No but no point in going trough it all over again. Locaked until there is a dev that feels otherwise.
