I know about proxies, but because I was a forum mod at a fairly large (larger than this) forum once. I think a lot of other people who have been on the Internet for a while know about proxies, but the question is whether it's morally acceptable to use it.cool evil wrote:You can vote extra times, but this is a trick mose people don't know about. You have to use an anonymizer, try this one
Because the anonymizer server use a different IP address, it allows you to have extra votes, but once you've cast a vote that IP from that server is not allowed to have another one until the after 24 hours. That's why you need to know several if not dozens of ananymizer sites. Good thing i know well over two dozen of them.
I've already casted three votes today, so i'm gonna do something else. Ask me if you need extra anonymizer websites, i'll list them here later.
Do the top names on the list cheat, though? Probably. Either that or they get in-game bonuses on a web-based community for voting, I've seen that happen before and that's annoying. I think that's just as bad "cheating" the poll.
Should we cheat? Probably not. I'm skeptical that sites like these even work, 99% of the people who vote are passionately biased that their game is the best and would only see the other entries as voting rivals.

This kind of thing is rather silly because it's too easy to try and 'stack' things. We could go and put a link on our home page to encourage people to vote and that'd probably help us get rather high....but do we really want to do that kind of thing?
We were already accused of 'cheating' a couple times to get Wesnoth to the top of the list of games on happypenguin, just because we had a thread on the forums inviting people to go and rate Wesnoth there.
I doubt it has much net effect on the game's popularity anyhow. Not compared to us actually putting in the hard work to actually improve the game.

Unfortunately this is true, but it also attracts more potential devs. However, most people looking at a site like that are not interested in developing games, simply playing them.cool evil wrote:You're right. I think more people in wesnoth isn't a good thing though, i just realized this now because more people=more noobs. Even though there is no precise formula to that, whenever a game gets too popular it tends to attract ignorant noobs looking for pure fun.

There's nothing wrong with more people playing the game, is there? But yeah, it probably won't have much of an effect on the overall popularity. Wesnoth is already quite popular in the freeware world, ranking as one of the best in the strategy game category on many sites. But I don't think the goal of Wesnoth is to become the most popular. I think the goal of Wesnoth is to create a great game for people, devs and regulars alike, can enjoy.
If you really cared that much about the game's popularity, get George Lucas to make a movie about HttT.

How in the world does Frog Life get two more votes than Wesnoth?

Runescape isn't even in the top 10. Which i am quite surprised because i know that the visitors count on that website is low, so low it's just pathetic compared to the total number of runescape players. The website for runescape have more visitors in one day than all of the visitors to mpod in a year.
We now know this isn't a website to trust, and their poll isn't convincing either, so don't worry if we lost.

The authors of the website need money from advertising. That's why you need to vote (reload the page) repeatedly. In exchange for our support in their plan, they can make us feel more proud about Wesnoth. That's win/win!!!Federalist marshal wrote:So if it isn't a website to trust, why do we continue to use it?
