Seems fine to me. What were you trying it out with? Bear in mind that bows really don't weigh all that much...xer wrote:I was thinking more of the hand angle, try it yourself, it very quickly gets unconfortable.

If you mean for the archer to be right handed, the bow is in the wrong hand. You hold the grip with your off hand and draw with your on hand. (If you want him to be left handed, you'll have to switch the quiver to the other side, since you draw arrows from behind the good hand.)
I really like the face, you bring across good emotion. And the hand is actually ok, it's the angle that the bow is sitting through it that makes it seem wrong. Good work on the fighter, I'll be watching to see where you go with these.

Allright! Now go out there and win one for the zipper!
Technically the units are ambidextrous, as the sprites are flipped.IndieTrannie wrote:If you mean for the archer to be right handed, the bow is in the wrong hand. The archer is pretty great, I just have a problem with the longish distance between the bow and the string. If you extrapolate where they would meet, it makes the bow really long.

I think the problem is this:xer wrote:Actually putting your hand in that angle, try putting your hand like that, bending up at what seemed 45 degrees, it really starts aching.
Usually the direction the object in someone's hand is going follow's the general path of the knuckles. In this case the hand looks like it should be holding the bow more vertical perhaps 10-15 degrees from vertical, but the bow itself is going more at a 45 degree angle.
This is what leads to the uncomfortable look to it--it makes the bow look awkward, and perhaps lends to the subconscious message that the archer isn't used to holding the bow, and it's dragging some.
but @ xer: it aches for you, but how much do you strengthen your wrists? I know that from lifting and moving things all summer, as well as doing a *lot* of archery and ping pong, that after awhile it doesn't feel so odd to hold things at previously awkward angles.

Looking great! It makes me feel so...behind.
The only thing wrong with the archer's bow is, to me, simply because we're so accustomed to seeing bows held a la bowman/longbowman.
But the one thing these archer portraits have in common is, if anything, the fact that they all hold their bows in their right hand. Thus implying that they draw the bowstring with the left hand, and thus implying that they're left-handed. Not that it's a bad thing, though. I'm left-handed, so I like it that way.

The way I see it, the archer's sitting around in leisure or posing for a camera instead actually being poised to shoot or fight, so it doesn't really matter how he's holding the bow, unless he's doing something freakish like clenching it in his teeth... which he isn't.
I'm also not entirely sure on this, but the Elvish fighter in the game appears to me to be wearing a chain or scale mail vest, though his shoulder armor is leather. But I guess that's more of a nit-pick than anything.
I love these portraits.

Because the quiver is on his right shoulder, it means he's right handed and just happens to hold the bow in his right hand (a right handed archer holds the bow in the left hand and picks arrows and pulls with the right one). Hence, he would have the wrist protection in the left wrist which is not visible. He should have something to protect his arms, shouldn't he?
