ICE attack in 1.3.x

Post by BuBu »

I had played the version 1.3.12 and it is very good. It has many nice changes that make the game more interesting. It use better the arcane attack and other balancing that i like, but there is one thing.

The ICE attack, there is few units that use it.

That is: dark adept (and lv2, lv3 of it), lizard "mage" of drake faction (lv.1 and lv.2) and mermaid sorcerers (i don't know until what level this unit goes).

Is there any other unit? Don´t you think that is necessary more units with ice attack?
Take a look in the things that i did: 6p - Secret Valley , MAP for SX

Firstly, it's cold, not ice. And there aren't that many who use it, though you did miss the ghost/spectre line's ranged attack. I don't see why there should be more, to be honest - there are very few units for which a cold attack fits. It's only really the magical/supernatural ones, and the majority of those (human mage line, elvish shaman line) are arcane/fire.

imo its neat if you have usual damage type and rare ones (cold & arcane currently), because it adds that whole mystery aura to the damage type.

The GRYPHON race, there is few factions that use it.

That is: Knalgans.

Is there any other factions? Don´t you think that is necessary to have more factions with gryphon units?

cold attacks

Post by Pookie Pitviper »

I don't think cold is as useful, overall, as fire. Are there any mainline units that are particularly vulnerable to cold other than Saurians and Drakes?

I just noticed that the Elvish "faerie fire" was changed from cold to arcane.
That should be interesting. Makes elves more effective against undead, anyway. I'm considering trying out HttT with an Elvish Sorceress (I usually don't bother with them).

Personally I would like to see more variety in magical attacks: there's no rule that says they can only be fire, cold, or arcane, is there? I like the magical impact attack of the [non-mainline] Shadow Lord (lvl 3 of the Shadow Mage line), for example.

The main branch of the Mermaid Initiate deals impact damage, and the Elvish Druid line deals pierce damage.

cold is a weird attack type for most units to have
ice arrows
i think not

the units with it have a reason to have a cold attack
some cold did go arcane
but it usually was a good move
elvish faerie fire could still be cold
but i like the balance with the undead better so... 8)

maybe the yeti if i think about it
cause they are snow beasts
icy breath or a snowball

They are used to snow, but they have no power over snow(except for making huge snowballs out of them..)

Well, to be smashed by huge snowball is clearly impact damage to me, you wouldn't even have time to notice cold ^-^

Anyway useless discussion, obviously we don't need more units with cold attack unless there is very good reason for it. Something like big drake invasion. Point.

Haha, but isn't that a big drake invasion? He distinctly said a big drake invasion.
