Libregamewiki is looking for contributors!

Post by Kiba »

http://libregamewiki.org

Libregamewiki is a Free gaming encyclopedia that launched in August 2007. It currently has over 100 articles and over 2,000 edits and we need your help!

We have a lot of work to do there such as adding new entries, expanding existing articles, and fixing things.

If we can make this wiki a comprehensive resource, it will cover games, people, and other area that we never know about in the Free gaming world.

We request that articles about games are entirely Free in both media and source code.

You guys are lucky to have the most comprehensive article on the wiki. Battle for Wesnoth is currently the biggest article(as of September 9, 2007) on the site and in close competition with the game list and in the top ten for the most revisions.

Our copyright licenses are dual licensed under the GNU FDL and CC A.

Please help us contribute to this project so we can make this a useful resource to the rest of the Free gaming world and gamers everywhere.

Thanks,

I see you have Cube on your list of games, but last I checked Cube & Sauerbraten are not open content, only the engine sources are Free. Does that mean Cube does not belong on this list?

After 100,000 pageviews, being dugg and shown up on slashdot even, we're still barely holding on. That is, we only have a few hardcore editors.

Indeed, we have over 3,000 edits on 161 articles(excluding lot of pages), but two users(including me) composed of about 75% of all edits on the wiki. Not to mention, we only have only 60 registered users.

If we can get more contributors, then we can start matching Wikipedia articles and thus make this wiki far more useful and time draining.

By the way, Battle for Wesnoth article is now the titleholder for the largest article on the entire wiki. I also created a new article, Battle for Wesnoth release history, that cover the entire release history of Battle for Wesnoth as far back that can be verified. The release history article also ranked 3rd place in term of size, behind the list of games and Wesnoth article itself.

Libregamewiki's article on Wesnoth may be even better than wikipedia's own.

There are things that I didn't cover though, such in depth coverage of Battle for Wesnoth's official campaigns, the Wesnoth universe, and critical receptions to Battle for Wesnoth.

And oh, we desperately need contributors. We got wesnoth covered, just that other games are lacking the same coverage that Wesnoth got.

Come on! Wesnoth is no longer the largest page on the wiki, contribute and get it back up there! :) :P

I think the problem is that anyone who would write for your project, can write the same thing for Wikipedia. And there are already many articles and many users in Wikipedia, including articles about computer games.

From what I've seen of wikis, "Build it and they will (sometimes) come." generally applies.

"Ask them to come and build it for you" generally doesn't.

I imagine Dave (and a couple of other Devs) produced many versions of Wesnoth before it hit that magic threshold where it was interesting enough for the wider community to start chipping in.

Problem with wikipedia is, that unknown/unpopular stuff will be kicked out.

Not a problem for wesnoth of course =)

And you other people stop saying "You do it" and do it! =P
