Northern Rebirth

Post by revi »

OK, I guess I am not that good at this yet.

I have played lots of the campaigns.. only on easy so far.. but have made it through a few.

I dl'd the above.. and I cannot get through the first scenario Breaking the chains.. maybe this one is too much for me.. and I am on easy again.

I have tried rushing.. sitting back.. just building and waiting.. the AI wants to seem to come after me even though the scenario would say the orcs want to attack each other..

Can someone give me a hint as to how to win this with my pitchforks??

Thanks

Use your bows and arrows... The woodsmen have much greater survivability on this level than the peasants. Get a few peasants to spread out and capture the outlying villages, and get killing blows to level to spearmen, but recruit mostly woodsmen IMHO. And, like the walkthrough says, keep them together en masse and don't expose them during the night. The peasant is only slightly less powerful than the grunt during the day, use groups of them and woodsmen to kill them off one by one. And do try to level some units, you'll need them to kill the leaders. Also, try to jump on damaged units before the enemy can kill them, particularly if you can go up a level...

Keep plugging. On easy, this is eminently winnable. It's MUCH more difficult on medium.

EDIT: finally, if you get the opportunity, move tallin up to the forward base with the two recruit squares beside it, keeping him shielded all the way, preferably once you've got a couple of level one units. It'll be MUCH easier to keep recruits coming into the battle if they don't have to spend 3 turns getting there.

And try your hardest to level Tallin if you can - getting him to high levels early on is a great boon later.

In the latest version, 1.3.9, you get woodsmen as well.

ok, so 2 things then.. in 1.2.6 did no one get past this scenario??

and why would a newer version of the game engine effect the layout of a user written scenario?? seems odd.

I am downloading 1.3.9 now.

unreal how different this plays in 1.3.9 ...

I won this my first try in the new version. 1.2.6 is not playable in this scenario.. if you did win in 1.2.6 please tell me how.. I would love to hear about it.

I played through all of Northern Rebirth in 1.2.6 on medium. I can't remember the exact strategy in scenario 1, but I think it was mostly about capturing remote villages, avoiding battle at night and building a solid army in the northern forest before starting an attack on the orcish castle.

The dwarven fortress was in the middle of a spiral in the southeastern corner of the map last I played... the second mission was a horribly designed labyrinth.
