Wesnoth in Palm OS??

Post by Stratos »

Hello!!

I'm planning to buy a Palm Z22, it haves Palm Os 5.4, and want to know If exist or If is possible to have a "Battle for Wesnoth" for Palm OS, I will really apreciate it to stay with my future wife ( 28 of April is my wedding ;) ) in the sofa while she's watching his favourite series.

Thank's!

Wesnoth on PalmOS would be great, but unfortunately I don't think it is compatible.

Yeah it'd be a complete re-write to work on PalmOS. Among other things, Wesnoth uses far too much memory.

Is this as true as it was?

The new Palm TX has 100MB of user accessible memory and a 312Mhz Intel processor. That's pretty much the equivalent of a Pentium 2-300. Could Wesnoth run on that? How about Wesnoth 1.0?

It'd require SDL to be ported there first, along with freetype and other library dependencies. Not sure how those exotic platform works, as I only have experience wtih the Intel x86 desktop PCs.

I have never actually tired this with my own Palm, so I don't know if it works or if there would be serious repercussions.

There are a few versions of Linux designed to run on various electronic date books like my Palm Tungsten E2 and almost all other Palms. Since the Battle for Wesnoth can run on Linux, could it run on a Linux-enabled Palm?

You need lots of ram apparently, unless you want to rewrite a big part of the game. (It uses very large lookup tables for some calculations).

I had a bit of a look around the web. It seems like it's theoretically possible, but someone has to port SDL to Palm first and that's a lot of hassle because the architecture is quite different to PC or Mac.

I think you'll have a lot better chance of porting Wesnoth to OpenMoko.

Battle for Wesnoth could not run on Palm OS. Too limited device and need a complete rewrite.

But the amazing game work on n800 (maemo device made by Nokia) and on some Zaurus.
