Background story images

Post by vonHalenbach »

Hi there!

I have made a background picture with a castle on a hill as eye candy in any campaign. It is inspired by a small picture from user mille from this forum. I can render it much bigger or smaller if you want or change the colors to appear as night time image with the moon in the background.

How is it?

I like the style. Could you post the svg? Then anybody could render it as they want.

I like it. Plus, using this style will make it a lot easier to get campaign images when you don't have the guy who did the HttT story images working for you.

Wouldn't it be best for everyone to just use the best-looking style of which they're capable? So long as you can get the same guy to do all the images for a particular campaign that should work fine, IMO.

I think I'm not getting your general idea here, but the guy who drew (painted?) the HttT story pictures is never seen around. And I don't think he works for free.

I might be misinterpreting too, but I got the impression Turin was saying (paraphrasing) "do comparatively simple art 'cos if you do art that's too fancy we might not be able to keep up with it if you leave".

Conversely, I believe we should always produce the best possible art.

Again, note that I may have misunderstood Turin's point.

My point was that with story art, often you can't get somebody like the guy who did the HttT graphics. In that case, you're better off using a style like the one in the above picture, rather than trying to imitate the style used in HttT (and probably failing).

Unless you hire him for lots'a money.

There is also some people that make good art, but is not paid attention at, because of the person being ..., look at SynErr. Makes good art, but he's not serious enough to be considered.

Unless, of course, he stole all this art: http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Contrib:Syntax_Error

I immediately thought of the ending of Liberty, that might fit as one story screen image there, at least if we'd get a few more similar ones for other places in the campaign. Interested? ;)

not at all. but you might want to scale it smaller, its lack of details is too noticeable when this large.

It seems that I catapulted SynErr to Glory (pun intended).

Back on topic, I look forward to see more art from vonHalenbach, specially if it gets sinister.
