Attack ability for magic users: Stone Gaze or Magic prison

Post by boer2 »

I was thinking about a human mage or a dead lich with this ability (after level 1).

The unit doesn't have a very good eyesight or a lot of movementpoints (let's say 4). At level 2 it can hold 1 unit IF it doesn't move or die.

Thus,
Level up to level 2
Go stand next to an enemy unit

-The enemy unit attacks
If you die, you loose your unit
If you don't die the enemy unit cannot move or attack if you don't move your unit, the enemy unit will also loose 1 or 2 hp per turn.

-The enemy unit flees
Nothing happens, you can advance your unit.

Levelling up to level 3 gives the unit double power, so you can hold max. 2 units and they loose double hp per turn.

Something along these lines

take out the part where enemy loses 1 or 2hp per turn. it's kinda like 2 abilities combined together. just a prison ability would be enough, this is very much like stone effect but only when the mages is attacked during the defensive.

i've come up with some new twists:
-can only hold 1 unit maximum, but the effect can last forever if you don't move your unit.
-in additon to If you don't die the enemy unit cannot move or attack if you don't move your unit, you cannot attack. i thought of this because if two units engage, the mage can keep attacking the enemy without moving, but the enemy cannot flee or attack. making it an absolute overpowered ability.
-if the mage gets attacked, the enemy will become un-prisoned.
-The enemy unit flees
Nothing happens, you can advance your unit.
how can an enemy unit flee if you attacked and you didn't die, then you inprison him/her?this should be taken out of the idea
evolved around the confined environment, emotions, knowledge and events mixed into my life, mere mortal am i, trying to climb higher up the ladder, time passes, just then i realized, death will part me eventually. - playtom's philosophy

Question: can other units attack the captured unit while the mage holds it? Can the captured unit fight back?

I say, make it possible to attack the captured unit, but attacks do half damage. It probably can't fight back. I agree that the capturing mage should be forced to be as inactive as the captured unit: this move then allows the mage to capture a much more powerful enemy and immobilise it while friendly units come in and kill it without fear of retaliation.

The way you've phrased the initial post seems to indicate that as long as your unit doesn't die the other unit will always be affected by the ability. This removes terrain defence from the game play which is quite a significant issue. Even the Cockatrice's stone gaze had to actually hit the defender which gave high defence units some chance against them.

I like the basic idea with the potential tweaks... but I think it should only work on those under your level, kinda like Leadership.
What would you give for your freedom?
