Dawgas, I've looked for you whenever I've been on and haven't yet seen you. My schedule is too wild for me to give you a time when I'll be on for sure- All I can really do is play you whenever I see you. It's a shame we couldn't just play a few days ago when we actually were on the server at the same time. I guess you disconnecting during the end of the blitz game ruled that out.
Listen:
If you want a Hodor match, go onto the server and call out his name. One of his incarnations will probably find you.

How sad when a fun in-joke is taken so seriously.Noy wrote:How sad when a fun in-joke among friends gets ruined.
I think the fun and enjoyment that many now have from the Hodor concept far outweighs any silly and rigorous wish to keep it exclusive.
Lighten up.

The sad part was that it was an in-joke that had a meaning that actually had little to do with balance or besting another player by using certain units, like what is being presented here. It was a tounge in cheek homage to George R. Martin Novels and various games and times we shared playing this game. Part of the joke was a response to my strict abhorrance towards using the outlaws. Conversely I enjoyed it because I was the lone anti-HODOR hold out among people like Winter, jb and Bec. If anything this has ruined what HODOR was, by someone who wasn't even originally part of the joke itself.
And yes I do take it somewhat seriously, because I do value the time I spend with my friends on here. I don't (and neither do they) appreciate that our joke is no more and that kinda makes us upset (slightly). You may not get why we, the original people part of the joke, feel, but we feel that way nonetheless. Its not as if we can replace such a thing so easily.

I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.

Yes, I do know everything that there is to know about the origins of the joke. I liked the idea of using all outlaws, hadn't ever seen it done in a 1v1, and decided to have fun with it.Noy wrote: or besting another player by using certain units, like what is being presented here. Forgive me for taking part in a joke that I was so obviously not a part of.Noy wrote: If anything this has ruined what HODOR was, by someone who wasn't even originally part of the joke itself.
Valuing time with friends= taking jokes very seriously, and complaining about the duplication/distortion of said jokes.Noy wrote:And yes I do take it somewhat seriously, because I do value the time I spend with my friends on here.
If jb and Wintermute have something to say about this, I'd like to hear it from them.Noy wrote: I don't (and neither do they) appreciate that our joke is no more and that kinda makes us upset (slightly).
I want a clear answer on this last question:
If you were God, and could erase from history the hours and hours of happiness and amusement that this incarnation of the Hodor concept has brought to many, many players (good players amoung them, "friends" of yours amoung them), would you do so, to keep your little in-joke to yourself? Please explain.

Reading the posts of Noy I'm somewhat shocked about how people can take things overly serious. Although I never cared much for the background of Hodor, I fail to understand that there is a problem letting other poeple have fun with such a joke.
I play Hodor matches myself just because fighting with outlaws only is fun; much more fun than playing with my "full power" against bad players. And still you aren't completely screwed with this strategy if your enemy turns out to be pretty good. I hope noone does mind me playing such games.
There's absolutely no need for me to name these games after some joke of other peoples. However, as they are broadly called "Hodor" nowadays, i'll stay with this name. Firstly it is simply shorter than something like "Outlaws only" and secondly it would be silly to change a name that everyone is used to.

HODOR
Hmmm Noy I have never known the origins of all that.
For me it was never important. What was important though, was the fun I had when playing HODOR.
It's a nice way of playing and most players enjoy playing it. They enjoy playing wesnoth due to it, I'd even say. A game you have been part of developing as far as I know. What else could you wish for?
I mean try to see it from this perspective. And I am sure no one intended to insult you or someone of your friends or spoil a joke.

@Noy:
If HODOR was actually your (friends) invention, thx a lot for sharing the name, the fun, the whole idea. You actually should be proud of it instead of insisting on sth like copyright issues
. The idea lives on and brings excitement and fun to the "hodorian" player and perhaps the most expected and most possible fun, enlightenment and mostly surprise for the opponent; I remember losing opponents and observers being amazed and overwhelmed by the power of (your) HODOR. I doubt you get all this by just playing/winning a "normal" 1vs1.
To loosen everyones temper and demonstrate part of the positive mood of a losing opponent I attached another AnimeKidHodor-Action.
Have Fun watching and
best regards, leocrotta
