DRAGON campaign!!

Post by Caiyln »

Abraxas, the giant green dragon, soars through the high skies, catching the wind in his bat-like wings. He swoops down low, near a lake to get some water. ‘FIRE!’ A rain of arrows pierces Abraxas’ wings, making him immobile. With a splash, he lands in the water, slowly wasting away, until Liam the shepherd boy finds him, sending them on a hell bent expedition.

So, the dragons called Abraxas, named after the Persian dragon. He was shot down by the orcs, who in this campaign hate the dragons for killing down a great sovereign leader. Abraxas is just a young dragon, ten years old, when most dragons live to a hundred. He will start out at the level 1 form of Dragon Heir, level 2 Dragon Lord, and level 3 Dragon Master. This is only in scenarios when he is by himself, without Liam, which is only going to be only three or four times. Abraxas will be green, and just plain for the level 1 form. In level 2 form, he will inherit a spiked tail, and some updates in the look. In level 3 form, (it would be very tough) I think it’d be cool to have him with golden armor on, and a spike ball tail.

Liam, is a shepherd boy, who saved Abraxas through means of curing that all shepherds learn, to take care of wounded animals. Liam is 15 years of age. By himself without Abraxas, he will start at level 1 being a Shepherd Boy, level 2 Animal Herder (tamer) and level 3 Animal Master. In level 1 form, he’ll just be a plain boy, with a cap on, a bow, and a pitchfork. In level 2 form, it would be interesting to have dogs with him, who will attack upon command. In level 3 form, he will have a leopard-skin shirt on, and war paint on his face. I want him to look totally awesome for level 3.

I will take care of everything maps, creating scenarios, codes, but I would really like to team up with an artist who can help me make these difficult characters, because I am just learning the ropes of the unit creating buisness. Anybody, who helps, will receive as much credit as I do myself.

Thanks.

If you're having trouble coding units I can help with that. As for unit art, most artist don't want to have thier work wasted on campaigns that don't get finished, so it would probably be better to use already existing art for now and when it's done ask again.

For those who don't want to do the research, he was actually a Greek Gnostic God, and an anguipe... snakes for legs and a rooster head (synerr, would you mind doing a sprite?)

o_O why would a shepherd have a pitchfork, an item used for throwing hay around? Surely he should have a crook an item used for sheep herding... Most would also have a sling IIRC, rather than a bow. Bows are expensive and use arrows, which are also expensive. Bows are also difficult to care for. Slings are easy to make, easy-ish to use and use rocks for ammunition, which are free...

That being said, the idea's not a terrible one, if a little cliché perhaps. I can see fairly major hole, though - if the orcs were close enough to shoot arrows at the dragon, surely they would have followed its fall and gone off to finish it off.

The unit designs sound like they would be cool. Are you aiming for an RPG-style thing with just the shepherd and dragon under the player's control, or are you going more for the strategy type of thing, in which case, how on earth (or whatever you call the world of wesnoth...) is a shepherd supposed to raise an army?

The campaign idea is ...interesting. It could be made really good, or it could fail. Stick to it, and you'll get good results. Don't break off after three scenarios, or something like that.

Some time ago, in the 1.0.2 days, there was a campaign where you played sheperds vs. Orcs (but without a dragon) Pretty fun, actually.

IIRC, the sheperds used sticks and slings, as spaceinvader described.
