Campaign (HSMP): The Dwarven Prince
I recently came up with a story, and I would like a bit feedback on it. I have coded the first scenario already, and I figured that the story might need a bit of polishing... I was a bit shy to post it, after playing Flight To Freedom and seeing its story, (Mine looked so bad in comparison.) but then I read one of Danny_California's posts and decided to post my stuff. (Mine looked so good in comparison.)
Also, I've got a male dwarvish steelclad picture for Alalsol, but I would like to get a female dwarvish thunderguard picture for Anaithaas... Well, if Homer could do without pictures, so can I.
Thanks All!
There was one a dwarf prince. He was called Cass, short for Cassanova. He was a famous lover for many miles around. One day, he bed the princess of a neighboring kingdom. His father, finding out, vows to kill him. Fleeing from his enraged father, Cass and the princess (Kate?) flee through some secret tunnels. Upon finding out that Cass seduced Kate, Kate's father vows to kill Cass and rescue his daughter. These two kingdoms have been at war for a long time, longer than anybody can remember. Both kings collide on the same path, after chasing Cass and Kate. A truce is formed. Cass and Kate, believing that they are both hunted, flee into human territory. Cass, being a superb storyteller (and lier), gathers up a small band of human misfits and thieves, and heads back to the caves to make a living. All is well for a while (nearly a week!), but then a dwarfish scout finds them. The army of both father's kingdoms bear down upon them. Cass is caught in battle and dies. Fleeing with the baby after Cass' death, Kate is (accidentally) shot in the back, mortally wounded, and left to die. The baby goes unnoticed... Perhaps to survive and grow for the sequel? Or perhaps to die, cold and alone?
The first dialog is written here: http://www.exong.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24#24.Cast:
quicktunnel prince - Alalsol (Cass)
quicktunnel king - Pelamatol
motherlode princess - Anaithaas (Kate)
motherlode king - Augdurathol

I'm not sure anyone wants to see a female dwarven character.
Other than that, I have no comments, other than if you do make it you might want to put a warning on that it's PG-13 not PG...

I am thinking about this campaign becoming multiplayer. One person would control the prince, one the princess. Now... a little problem... although a hot seat MP campaign is easy to create, how do I make it into a world-wide one? Is it even possible? Even if it is not, I have figured out a very clumsy, undesirable way to do it using one MP scenario. I have looked in the wiki, but to no avail.
Everybody likes female elves...
Nobody can tell with drakes...
And nobody likes female dwarves.
If I had cool mod powers, I would make a poll on the subject. (This is probably why I don't have cool mod powers...) As it is, please cast your vote below! Question: Do you like the idea of a female dwarf?
Could somebody PLEASE give me a picture of a female dwarf? My dial-up connection and google image are not particularly compatible...

Check the MP campaigns HowTo. And they're currently broken - but that might change until BfW 1.4 or so.DDR wrote:although a hot seat MP campaign is easy to create, how do I make it into a world-wide one? Is it even possible?

Let me say it: it's extremely clumsy, limiting and error-prone to try to work around this by wrapping it all in one scenario. It'll greatly increase your development and testing time, too. Perhaps a better way is to go the MP campaigns route (hoping it gets a bug fix sometime), so you'll not be forced to give up after scenario 3 or so due to technical circumstances.DDR wrote:Even if it is not, I have figured out a very clumsy, undesirable way to do it using one MP scenario. CIB also wanted to make a framework for the one-scenario hack. I'm not sure how far he got.
I do like the idea of a female dwarf, but I think this whole portrayal of romance goes against the grain of stoic dwarves. This isn't even a parody any more (parodies exaggerate existing characteristics of their subjects), but an attempt to turn the dwarven personality upside-down. In all Mythologies dwarves are stoic, grudging, stubborn, possibly taciturn individuals. Like the element of earth that they're associated with they are rather slow to respond (emotionally) or to give trust. They certainly aren't prone to the superficial enthusiam of blind love.DDR wrote:Question: Do you like the idea of a female dwarf?
In your story and dialogue, the prince decides to abandon his family/clan, responsibilities as heir etc after a one-night-stand that was based on physical attraction.

I do like the general idea, it's a dramatic theme beaten-to-death perhaps, but can always be pulled out again for another beating to some effect.

Try some Multiplayer Scenarios / Campaigns
Ok - they are two dwarves who somehow got together on an illicit mining contract... avoid taxes... and then the story happens...
How's that strike you? I don't have a lot of experience on romantic dialog, so I will give that up. I think that, whatever slant I take, most of the dialog will have to be re-written...

How about this ?The dwarven princess is captured by some trolls. She promised the prince to marry him,if he free her.maybe he is tired of war and think this would be an opportunity to finish it .he did that and brought her home ,but the father in law doesnot agree and send them away(maybe he should find a special gem or has to defeat the trolls in a special part of the caves )for getting her.he does that and than his father was angry with him besauce he helped his arch rival and they has to flee again. or again he has to do some special things (maybe defeat an undead lich or some humans who dig in the caves after gold)to get the thron back .after he did that he marrie the girl and the war between the dwarvish clans is over.
BTW i wann see some art of a dwarvish princess i have no idea how a female dwarve should look

OK...
Good princess.
I will probably use it, or some version of it.
I like the flow of the above story. I may co-opt it to my storyline.
Some revised script:
story= _ "Dwarves are greedy creatures by nature."
story= _ "They will go to almost any length to get wealth for their clan and themselves."
story= _ "This can cause problems."
story= _ "One day, two dwarves decided to embark on a mining trip. They went deep into contested territory, evading forces from both sides."
story= _ "In a cavern far away from friendly tunnel, they found ores, richer than they had ever seen before. They mined tirelessly, day and night, for 5 days."
message= _ "Anaithaas: A dwarven dame, able to mine (and fight) with the best of 'em."
message= _ "Alalsol: Crack fighter, repairman, miner. A true rennisance dwarf."
message= _ "Alalsol, we have mined enough gold here to bring eternal honor to our tribe. We almost have more than we can carry as it is."
message= _ "True. Shall we call it a day, and head out tomorrow?"
message= _ "Sure, might as well."
Sorry for the hard code look. I just reduced it, and will replace it tomorrow with a full story more complete better script.

I think that the following is a good revision of the above story. Does anyone have any opinions?
NEW STORY:
There was once two dwarf prospectors, who made their livings searching out minerals and jewels far below the ground. One was called Alalsol, and he was renown far and wide for his mixed luck. The other was called Anaithaas, and she was renown for digging Alalsol out when he got trapped digging diamonds out. This pair went out hunting ores one day, only to find the mother load of their dreams. It was in enemy territory, and, after two days of digging, they are routed by enemy forces. They push their load of goods into a cavern (get them back later), and flee to the surface. They are stuck there, due that they blew up the tunnel behind them. Anaithaas, having a head for maps, knows that there is a neighboring isle that has a tunnel back down. Obtaining a boat, they head over to the other isle, and go back to their country. Upon arrival at the Lord's palace, he makes his case that their country should plan an offensive into the enemy territory that he was kicked out of. Unfortunately, the enemy was alerted by the pair's mining to the minerals in the contested region. They launched their offensive first, and gained nearly 2km³ of prime resources. Alalsol and Anaithaas are subsequently run out of the kingdom. They are told that they can return if they can take back (and hold) the twice territory they lost. Since gains and losses of 100m³ of tunnel are newsworthy, they are deeply dejected. Honor demands that they rejoin their kingdom. Reality forbids it. They travel to Almer, which has a reputation of being a rough port, in hopes of finding a mercenary. The promise of gold upon winning (they retrieve the goods they pushed over the cliff) is not appealing to the mercenaries. However, on their way out, they do discover homeless, (and mostly harmless) dark mage. He is willing to help them. They travel back to their kingdom, and pitch their great plan to their king. He agrees, although it is a very unusual one. (Most attack frontally, a few go above ground, cross the seas, and go in the cave that Alalsol and Anaithaas were originally chased from, and bring the dark mage to help them.) Upon taking the cave, cutting enemy supply lines, and collapsing part of the main tunnel leading to the enemy's territory, Alalsol and Anaithaas venture down to the cavern where they dropped their loot. They find it [scattered]. They venture back through the recently caught territory to their king. He tells them that he has just negotiated peace with the enemy, both their armies having been worn to a frazzle. He also tells them that they have to return their loot from the cavern to the enemy nation, as it was part of their peace treaty.
