The Fall of Wesnoth
I'm developing a campaign called The Fall of Wesnoth which is a prequel to Under the Burning Suns. It depicts how Wesnoth became a dessert and the civilizations fell apart.
I was thinking of setting it in around 1300 YW to give room for future campaigns. I'm planning on having 12 scenarios though I'll probably add more. This campaign is being developed solely for 1.3.x and I've just uploaded version 0.1, which contains the first 2 scenarios, onto the 1.3.x server. Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

"And lo! the lands became filled with cake and icing, while whipped cream fell from the skies in a furious deluge that threatened to drown all man! And ye, the factions, the cultures, the civilisations did fight between each other and amongst themselves to reap the benefits of - and escape - this wonder as had not been seen before. But then, did the great behemoth known to us only as the Iced Creame Ball fall from the Heavens, and laid desolate all of Wesnoth. That is the story of how Wesnoth became this great Dessert."wsultzbach wrote:It depicts how Wesnoth became a dessert and the civilizations fell apart.
All I could come up with on short notice.

ROTFL
ROTFL, that's so hilarious. Brings up the notion of highly satired campaigns.....hmmmmmmRaemon wrote:"And lo! the lands became filled with cake and icing, while whipped cream fell from the skies in a furious deluge that threatened to drown all man! I was wondering when people would notice this. Maybe the two could be combined: It is black magic that causes the Scepter of Fire to go crazy and desertify Wesnoth.wsultzbach wrote:It's caused by the Septer of Fire.DDR wrote:I am apparently making the same campaign as you - 5 scenarios done already! hmmm... how does your Wesnoth end? Mine was finally done in by black magic.

Actually, that's how it happens in my campaign.Temuchin Khan wrote:I was wondering when people would notice this. Maybe the two could be combined: It is black magic that causes the Scepter of Fire to go crazy and desertify Wesnoth.wsultzbach wrote: It's caused by the Septer of Fire.

Interestingly enough, I really wanted to write this story after playing UtBS. Apparently multiple people were inspired by it. Would anyone be interested in collaboration?
My idea was basically to take the background info that we know in UtBS and craft a story around that information (obviously we should ask quartex first). All that talk about Eloh fighting the demon, etc, made me wonder how to turn that into a story. I thought about how history tends to glorify the past, and deduced that perhaps Eloh was not actually a goddess but just a great elven leader who saved them all from certain doom around the time of the Fall, etc.
My basic outline, quartex permitting:
I. You are an elven soldier putting down a rebellion
- You succeed in destroying the rebels, and interrogate their commander
II. Disturbed by his words, you go to investigate what is happening
- High command brushes you off, etc.
- You independently learn about the second sun project
III. You band together with the rebels and decide to try stopping it
- Big battle at the location, vs. combined Wesnoth/elf wizards
- Attack fails to stop second sun project, you flee
IV. Desertification begins
- Seems great at first, darkness retreating, but things change
- A great prophet (Eloh?) suggests gathering a core group of survivors
V. Finding a new land
- This is where the exploits we hear about in UtBS come in
- Eloh facing down the demon controlling the elves, etc.
- Eventually coming to their present home in UtBS and settling in
This is easily combined with the Scepter of Fire idea. Let the demon Eloh eventually defeats become the one behind the scenes, manipulating the SoF and the Wesnoth/elf nations into the second sun idea. Eventually you discover this, track him down, defeat him, etc.
Honestly, I think it is a good foundation for a story, plus it ties everything together nicely. It sets the stage for UtBS, brings the SoF theme to a conclusion, and ties together essentially all of the mainline campaigns. I also think the story itself has the potential, if done VERY well, to be as emotional and powerful as UtBS.

I've got version 0.2 up on the campaign server. I added 2 new scenarios with another cliffhanger at the end. I need some help with the code in the 3rd scenario. I removed the part in question from the final scenario, but if your interested, PM me.

A few things.
First, If anyone would like to help out, a King sprite to replace the current grand marshal being used would be much appreciated. Second, is there a map showing the location where the scepter of fire was made?

This campaign is still alive.
After a long hiatus, I've finally got version 0.3 on the server. It has 3 new scenarios an a few other minor changes.
I resized when play testing it that it feels like an ending, but I still am planing to make 3 to 4 more scenarios with UtBS-style gameplay.
So, go check out the new version, and I hope you like it.

Okay, this campaign is now officially abandoned. I'm working on a new campaign and this one just didn't work out.
If anyone wants to take over this campaign or use the code (a few people seem to have ideas like this) it will remain on the 1.3 campaign server.
Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Didn't Ryorin once, some time ago, come up with a Nightfall campaign idea, involving over-proud mages raising a second sun to banish night?
Yeah, I searched it. Here we go: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic. ... c&start=17
