WIP: PS3 and Wii port

Post by ivanovic »

Now that the GP2X port is getting close to being really usable (a fresh alpha build is currently being uploaded to sf.net) we are now working on something more exotic. Since Wesnoth runs fine on a rather small device with *very* limited ressources we are rather sure to be able to make it run on more powerful devices like the Wii or the PS3.
We even have a very early alpha in a closed test running on an unmodified Wii. A photo of a dear dev playtesting it was attached (no, I will not name the player). ATM it tends to crash every now and then but beside this the Wiimote is the perfect input device for Wesnoth. It just replaces the normal mouse. Thanks to alinks latest patches drag&drop works like a charm.
We do not plan on developing a version for the XBox360 due to the really huge license fees for a dev-kit. Sorry for everyone just having this console. We hope to soon provide the bootable discimages. At least if we can stop testing for a while so that we can upload them...

Edit:Happy April Fool's Day!

Works nice. Occasional crashes are frustrating, but thanks to autosaves it's playable. At least one does not grow fat from sitting still in front of the monitor.

Reminds me of a joke PC World did one April fools day: Windows goes open-source!

Unfortunately at the moment you have to compile from source. Get the latest SVN and see the instructions in the Makefile. Once it's sufficiently stable we'll consider distributing binaries.

If this is an April Fool's Day joke, so help me! But, I suppose even if it is, it will eventually happen, since it is just SUCH A COOL IDEA!
Out with the old, in with the new.

interesting april fools joke, but it's not that subtile, they should have picked something more plausible.

Someone I know just told me that Blizzard Entertainment (hes a WoW addict) had one. I looked and found it amusing, because I know a few people who might accualy fall for it. (I.E. those who olny entered the Warcraft universe to play WoW and havn't seen any of the other stuff in it.)

They had two in fact, one was launching a new game and the other was a very funny idea for an item, tin foil hat. The tin foil hat idea was really funny, but both are pretty much for reading pleasure not really tricking anyone. The two-headed ogre character idea they had a few years ago was pure genius, i loved it. The way they said one head could sleep while the other one levels up. :P

Sorry, I didn't mean it in a bad way, the april fools joke was really funny but it was too obvious it was a joke, I mean it wasn't meant to fool anybody in my opinion it was just put there to amuse people, which it did may I add, very well in fact.

Slashdot, I'm sure there are some computer nerds here, had some really good april fools jokes too this year.

I wish it was real. I think it would play well using the pointer like a mouse, the trigger to select, and the thumb button to cancel.
