Rise of Wesnoth: Temple of the deep: Difficulty issue

Yes, I know the thug strategy, but it does not work IMHO because
the point of TROW is survival and you need units with lots of HP, not hard to hit units that turn into soulless against you when they die.
So on hard, I gave Burin the holy water and sent him west with a white mage and 2 more high HP units, like a shock trooper and a grand knight
the rest I sent north and beat wave after wave on the pinch points.
Some more remarks:
1) If you do not have all 3 Heavy infantry, GO BACK and replay
: At least on hard they are indispensable in the last scenaria. So you may
hate this now, but you'll hate it a lot more if you get to say the Dragon
or Return of the fleet and find out you really need these Iron Maulers.
2) tentacles are great for levelling mages and other units

probably a bad idea. Burin has got impact anyway, you might want to give holy to someone with bad damage type (royal guard, grand knight, etc).santi wrote:So on hard, I gave Burin the holy water
i played on medium, but didnt have outlaw units recruitable, only 1 heavy infantry, and average luck. and it wasnt too hard. imo it was fine.
Just played it yesterday on hard, and I thought the map was free experience.
In addition to Burin and Minister Edmund, I used 2 white mages, 1 red mage, 2 heavy infantry, 1 shock trooper, and 1 spearman.
Leveled up Edmund and a white mage into mages of light.
Leveled a red mage into an archmage.
Turned 2 heavy infantries and 1 shock trooper into shock troopers with good experience (80s, 70s, and 30s).
And leveled a spearmen into a pike (gave him the holy water).
I got to clearwater port with 265 gold, which made it a breeze. I actually killed all 3 kings on it, although I had to lose a halberdier to do it.
