My first attempt at art.... the Drone.

Post by BloodIssyl »

This is my first attempt at pixel art this small.

This guy will be called a Drone, and he will be a lvl 0 unit in my faction i plan to create. Is he too small for a lvl 0? too big? I think i did well with him, except for the legs. I dont do legs well. The name of the faction will be the Skaenids.

Comments/Constructive Critcism welcomed.

I will be posting a Skaenid multiplayer faction topic in Faction & Era Contributions, if you want the full story and how my faction will function.

Okay, third attempt at my lvl 0 unit, the Drone.

I spent more time on the legs, adding left legs as well :D
I also switched the perspective to the front a little more, and switched head and body color.

Did i do better?

Better, but you still need to change the perspective. The drone's front side should be facing the bottom right corner of the screen.

Even better! You've shown so much persistence in so little time. All I can say is make the legs one to three pixels bigger, they look very anti-aliased right now. If they still look jagged after you widen them, try using the paint brush too to smoothen them up. It may not look it, but we (at least I) appluad your effort. Keep up the good work!

Okay, pretty happy with this one, but i still changed it around a little.

Made bases and upper legs thicker.
Moved tail spike.

Comments plz!!!!!!

edit:

New file, tried anti aliasing on the legs, dont think i did too well :(

Ahem... now on that perspective thing 8). You should try making it with the head pointing to the bottom right corner (as others have said) which really shouldn't be a huge problem. It's essentially got a flame-shaped head plate, two red beady eyes in crevaces on either side of it, six legs, and a tube body. It might even be fun! :D

Thanks a lot!

I think i made the final sprite for my Drone (for now)
Im pretty happy with him

Changes:
 Added anti-aliasing almost everywhere
 Fixed up and reshaded tail armor plate
 Cut "curve" off the tip of the faceplate.
 Cut off a lot from faceplate, to shorten length.

Hes almost exactly as i envisioned him to be, except i envisioned more armor plates on the back (but that will be saved for later levels)

I think im very happy with him 8)

Most of my other units will be frankenstiens off of this one, so from here on some of the units should be a little easier.

Im getting some sleep....

Thx for the help and support guys!

I've some suggestions for you:

Right now the head looks quite big because of the crown. try making the body a bit bigger (or head smaller) to improve balance.

legs don't have to be even spaced, more legs can be near the head for support compared to the lighter tail.

you can add little feet stubs to the end of the legs.

front legs can be flatter than the hind legs
