Outlaw poacher level 3 - Ranger or Huntsman ??

Post by LoneWolf »

I prefer ranger (to huntsman), definitely. They have balanced melee/ranged strikes, higher HP are very effective in woodland (more than Huntsmen). And so on....

Higher ranged damage of Huntsman doesn't matter to me.

Note: I am bored. That's why I opened this topic.

I agree, plus the rangers get marksman and (in my L3 outlaws which is probably out of date) huntsmen don't. So really, the mere fact that rangers will hit more often is , IMHO, better than the huntsmen dealing more damage when they hit.

I've looked at the stats of those units i have (L3_Outlaws v2.2 IIRC) and i've found that the Ranger & Huntsman's stats i have are kinda bogus (especially the Huntsman) :
- Trapper : 45 HP, 4-4 melee, 6-4 ranged
- Huntsman : 56 HP, 4-4 melee, 6-4 ranged, gains +10% defense in swamp
- Ranger : 60 HP, 7-4 melee, 7-4 ranged (no marksman !!! But i remind it had marksman in previous versions), gains +10% defense on hills
What stats do you have ?

In those conditions, the Ranger is obviously better in almost all cases.

I think i will make those changes for the Extended Era :
-> Huntsman 5-4 or 6-4 melee, 10-4 or 11-4 ranged
-> give the marksman back to the Ranger

Marksmanship......very good ability  . Perfect against thieves (or assassins....).

P.S.: Merry Christmas from Czech Republic :D

Both the huntsman and the ranger are usermade and not included in mainline as far as I know so the fact that they are not perfectly balanced does not mean that it is terrible, but they definitely need updating. I like the Huntsmen graphics better than the Ranger graphics though  .

P.S. Merry Christmas from the U.S. back to the old country. I miss it  .

Here is the unit files without the image parts. This was for Wesnoth 1.0.2 under L3_Outlaws. I don't have L3_Outlaws for 1.1.13 because it messes up MP apparently.

So to sum up... (correct me if I'm wrong)

Ranger:
9-4 melee
7-4 ranged
marksman
fast on land

Huntsman:
5-4 melee
10-4 ranged
good in swamps

Is this how it is across the different eras that use it?
Maybe the huntsman should get marksman. The ranger is awesome for his movement cost and +1 moves, and marksman seems to fit his personality better. However, it would just as easily fit the huntsman and make it the outlaws' definitive ranged unit.
"Then I'd prefer you refer to it as 'The Midlands'"

If I'm supposed to fight creeping biggerism, then why is it a game feature?
