Multiplayer Campaigns?

Post by Jahya »

Is there a possibility that there will be multiplayer campaigns at some point?

It's a feature that a lot of our developers are interested in, so it's highly likely it will get added eventually.
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

So far the closest thing to that seems to be the User Made maps, such as Northerner RPG, and all the DotX.

It would really help to enable some features (like the allow_new_game key) in 1.2 already. I know it's scheduled for 1.3 for now, and that technically there's a feature freeze, but I think this feature being limited to out-of-scenario dialogues could implemented for 1.2 nonetheless.

Also, [story] tags are only available to the host, which spoils the story-telling mechanism (I guess this is just something that was never considered in the mp server code).

Other than those two relatively small feature requests, the support is already there, and it would be great to get those in the next stable release. Because content is usually created for stable releases... :)

Great!

I'm happy to hear I am not the only one who is interested in this type of new feature.

If someone needs help testing a multiplayer campaign please let me know and I think I have at least 1 or 2 other people willing to play test it with me.

To get started and to have a reference point for future testing you could warm up by playing a bit of Northern RPG from Sapient's Mappack and the first scenario from Unnatural Winter MP, both on the campaign server. MP campaigns are a BfW development branch feature, so you won't find any of that with 1.0.2. (which still is the "stable" release of wesnoth).
