The bending can also be done with displacement maps. Most tutorial's for them actually use waving flag for example. Here's one.

Thanks for the hint.
You can count the campaigns on the finger of a blind butcher who still use my old axethower. So for those who still have use for him a small goodie.

I just didn't stopped with the face I regulary update my scraps with work in progress so you have just seen my first steps. Still the left hand and feet bugs me but I had to finish it else this guy have would have carried a complete furnishing.Ranger M wrote:Looks great, I was wondering what you would do with that dwarf head.wayfarer wrote:Thanks for the hint.

Actual I will shorten the torso. In my opinion dwarves should look more compact high as wide.Zhukov wrote:*thinks this is great*
If you want critique, I'd suggest raising the waist (i.e. the belt) a little to give him a tad more leg and less torso...if that makes sense...
I make this regular just in case I make an mistake, erase it or whatever. I'm superstitious this and the fact that I should reinstall my windows.Ranger M wrote:I'll be sure to check more regularly from now on.wayfarer wrote:I just didn't stopped with the face I regulary update my scraps with work in progress so you have just seen my first steps. I've taken to backing up everying to a 200 GB external hard drive which is at home (I use svn to write to it easily, and so that I can point other people to it if needed), and all of my most recent stuff to a memory stick that I have with me (at home or at school)wayfarer wrote:I make this regular just in case I make an mistake, erase it or whatever. I think the proportions a a bit off. If his head is the same size as a human head, that would make him about 100 cm tall. There has been discussion about dwarvish proportions before.
Your dwarf has the proprtions of the sprite, which should not be considered for portraits. In sprites, the proprtions are much more cartoonish (bigger head, shorter limbs) than in portraits.

Proportion wise I would say that the legs could be a little longer, but for the most part it's fine.
EDIT: to be more specific, the head and torso, assuming that the torse ends a little below the belt, are about what I would imgine dwarvish proportions to be, but the legs are litterally tiny on him, I hadn't noticed before but they really should be bigger.

Ok lets discuss dwarven anatomy a little just got time.
I tried to stick to this one.
My mistake is mostly that the haed is too big. (I made the face before the rest terrible mistake. )
Than the rest adds together
On a site note I like the idea in this reference that dwarves try to hide their heads between big shoulder plates like a turtle. I will use this in the second try but for know I'm reworking my first portrait and I also got some new ones on the plate. Yeah drawing is fun.
