Emphasis mine.Flametrooper wrote:No. No. PLEASE NO.
Do NOT let stupid issues such as that stand in the way of an awesome idea. Please don't. An elementary school kid, IF they even play this game, is PERFECTLY capable of seeing a fantasy character, in an unreal setting, drink a drink which might not, for all they could tell, even be beer. Don't they see their parents drink the stuff all the time anyways?
I swear, the pro-censoring people are just getting worse and worse.
Oh, and BTW Redeth, nice preview!
Jet says that this will not be censored, as he feels that the antiseptic over-censoring of things robs them of their relation to the real world (and does other bad things).
OtOH, ixnay on the beer ... bong. Really.

After 4 inches of falling, I am none the wiser.
Anyway, did I ever say "This shouldn't be in the game?"
I didn't even say that we should have a policy against such things. I just say we should have a policy.
I am not a prude about drugs or alcohol. I just think we should all be on the same page about it. I mean, earlier on people talked about animations involving snot bubbles, and some people said it was inappropriate. I just want the same discussion here.
Don't go to Glowing Fish for advice, he will say both yes and no.
I like the "beerserker" preview - it's a quality graphic. I wouldn't like to see it in-game, though, and not for censoring reasons. It's just a tad too cute and cartoony. This is what these guys do on the battlefield. We don't see them taking a bite off their packed lunch or chocolate bars, either. Or relieving their bladder on a Wose's leg. It's just a part of their life we don't want to know about. Same if we learned about their hobbies in the idle animations. Or saw them playing cards.
It distracts too much from the battle theme.

Uh, enjoy this post while you can!Jetryl wrote:Any more posts about this and those posts will start disappearing.

Try some Multiplayer Scenarios / Campaigns
I was thinking of a few idle animations ideas myself. I actualy made a post about it and didn't know this one exsisted.
A unit swating a bug. Show distraction from battle and a lack of intelligance.
2.Spearmen Sharpening tip of his spear
3. droping weapon or shield and picking it up again
Also what about sounds for these. the swoshhhH.. of the blade or the buzzing of a bug.. Any ideas of that

Guardsman and Berserker and their correspoding .zips (meaning that's their 'final' version). There's been some interesting posts I'd like to address, but it's late, no time for idle chat now
Good night...

And what, may I ask, is wrong with a dwarf drinking a refreshing glass of orange juice?

An updated list of what's been completed and committed can be found here.

I guess the sorceress' strip tease is out of the question, isn't it?Glowing Fish wrote:I mean, earlier on people talked about animations involving snot bubbles, and some people said it was inappropriate. I just want the same discussion here.

Now seriously... How about a thug or bandit lighting a smoke? Would that be censored?
I don't smoke and I'm all against tobacco publicity and that kind of bs, but this action would be perfect for one of the 'shady' characters, so I'd like to know the ruling before doing the 'animating' (the thug and bandit have not been TColored and revamped yet, anyway).
Good ideas.Rhuvaen wrote:This is what these guys do on the battlefield. We don't see them taking a bite off their packed lunch or chocolate bars, either.
Why not?Rhuvaen wrote:It's just a part of their life we don't want to know about.
That would be going too far, I agree, but the whole purpose of these idle animations is to see what the units do when they are *not* fighting, to bring some life to the static way they stand right now.Rhuvaen wrote:Same if we learned about their hobbies in the idle animations. They are on the battlefield, yes, but it is attack and defense animations what you see when actual combat takes place. The rest of the time... well, I think a berserker having a drink is something you'd expect him to do before or after a fierce fight.
I believe it enhances it by making the characters more interesting and believable, but this is a matter of taste, of course.Rhuvaen wrote:It distracts too much from the battle theme.
A good candidate for the new Trolls or the Young Ogre.SaintDust wrote:A unit swating a bug. Show distraction from battle and a lack of intelligance.

Doable...SaintDust wrote:2.Spearmen Sharpening tip of his spear
Will be done, too. Thanks a lot, SaintDust!SaintDust wrote:3. droping weapon or shield and picking it up again
Alright, enough talking... A short animation for the footpad scratching his head with the club, and a long one for the shaman and her madness... I mean, her shamanic ritual.

You can always put a warrior crunching its knuckles (and add the sound for better effect).
between I tought at first that the elf shaman animation was her mounting on her staff like it was an imaginary horse
tought... wouldn't it be better if she did something like a majorette and spinned off his staff, lunch it to the ceil and then grab it again?

I wouldn't censor it, but I would raise the question of - how would they have access to tobacco in the first place?zookeeper wrote:No, it would not be censored.Redeth wrote:Now seriously... How about a thug or bandit lighting a smoke? Would that be censored?
If it would be, I'd quit. Seriously.
