Flametrooper wrote:So, is it possible that the Celts could be included once they're finished? (I need to know, because if yes, I'll have do do some messing with damage types.)
Hm... possible? Yes. But not guaranteed.

BTW, I want to bring up again the question of whether having the Kedari in the IE is really a good idea. IMHO it isn't.

turin wrote:Again, then, wouldn't it seem like Disrupt and Overwhelm would work better as weapons specials rather than attack types?
Well, I meant to say "spirit" and not "ranged" in the previous post. Big slip-up on my part!

And I'm not convinvced they would work better as weapon specials. Here's my original idea for the howl attack:

howl 2-5 spirit disrupt slow

Here's another version, making it a weapon special:

howl 2-5 ranged impact disrupt slow
turin wrote:BTW, I'm not a fan of the name "electric" for the lightning attack type. It sounds too scientific - IIRC the concept of "electricity" is really rather recent. And better ideas?
We could call it either "lightning" or "blitz" or "thunderbolt," as far as I'm concerned, as long as it makes sense.

You may be right, but then where would they find a home?

However, in their defense, there was a brief-lived Arab empire, know to history as the Empire of Palmyra, in the thrid century AD. The Palmyrans took Syria, Palestine, and at least part of Egypt from the Romans and held on to them for several decades, all of which would not have been possible but that the Roman state was in the midst of one of the worst crises in its entire history.

Also, in the following centuries, the Eastern Roman Empire and the Persian Empire often made alliances with Arab tribes.

So there would be some justification for keeping them in, but if it would be better balance-wise to eliminate them, I will defer.

They could find a home in the Extended Era...where factions without an era go. A home for homeless factions, in a sense. In the meantime, they could be modified and renamed to be the Ayria until the real Ayria get finished and included.

True. Then, of course, the Extended Era would have another desert faction. Still, a Kalifa-Kedari battle might be interesting.

**Turin's Vision for the Factions that will be in the Imperial Era**
Human factions:
1. Lavinians
2. Marauders
3. Arendians

Elvish factions:
1. Wild Elves
2. Frost Elves

Orcish factions:
1. Orces Gentorum

Dwarvish factions:
1. Airiya

A few questions people will probably have:

Q. What happened to the Kedari?
A. I removed them because:
* The graphics are poorly drawn (by me, btw)
* The unit tree doesn't fit the factional concept (Djinn allied with Murshids?)
* They don't have a place in the history of the IE

Q. What happened to the Aragwaithi?
A. They already have a home, in the World of Wesnoth, in A New Order, and in multiplayer, in the Extender Era. And they never had a place in the IE.

Q. What do I mean by saying the Airiya are Dwarvish?
A. I don't mean they're really short, I just mean they're shorter than normal people (~5 feet), they grow big beards, and they using runic magic. The Nemidians are "dwarves" as well. If you can think of a better name for the idea, please tell me.

"Dwarflike" might be better. But do we even need "dwarves" in the IE?

And I must agree that the Kedari and Aragwaithi are the most expendable factions in the era.

Maybe I'll see if the EE has a use for the Kedari, as per Flametrooper's suggestion.

Well, either turin ignored my post or didn't see it.

What do you think about coordinating damage types?

TURIN: Since you are basically head of IE, and what you say basically goes. Will the sidhe and frost elves come from the Old Continent or will I have to look at redoing their history.

I, though it seems like no one else is with me, am strongly against a third range, which seems to be 'spirit'. For where would this 'spirit' range fit in for every race.

I agree that it could fit in with the Sidhe, using their 'war-cry' as a spirit, disrupt attack.

And that the ancestors would use it as well. But it just doesn't feel right for me, but if the collective agree to do it. I will go along with it.

Since I am in the middle of a test, I don't have time to speak on all matters.

Err, sorry - I saw it, but I didn't have any immediate response to it, and I had to post quickly...

I think it comes down to - what damage types do you have in the EOM? If IMHO the damage types you have are good, I think coordination would be a good idea.

That was unexpected... I'd expect turin to be strongly against having werewolves and vampires along with the Lavinian Horde.

Also turin, me and you posted around the same time, so look right above your post at mine.

A legitimate criticism of the Kedari. My latest idea, first proposed a month or two back, was to split them into two factions -- Kedari and Nizari. In fact, inspired by the move to cut them from the IE, I have revived the Kedari thread and completed the split.

Right now, I'm redoing the history, and I have the Sidhe and Frost elves appearing in the northland in an unexplained manner. It could be they came from a different continent, and it could be that they were in a Valinor-like land but were exiled a la the Silmarillion.

I'm ambivalent, slightly leaning towards being against it, mainly because it will take a strong balancing toll and I don't see any great reasons for it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the IE does NOT exist in the same world as the EOM - but I don't have a problem with them being compatible, as long as it doesn't require very much extra work on my part.

Yet for them to be compatible, we would most likely need spirit range, disrupt attack, and overwhelm attack in the IE.

Ummm.... Internet! :P
It is a test we are doing on the computers.

Hm.. the randomly appearing for no apparent reason is great. :?
It's like they all blacked-out at a party and ended up in the OC.

Suddenly these magic elves appear out of nowhere and astound everyone.

If you are planning on having IE and EOM compatable that means the third range being added. Which, as you know I am against.

Currently here's the setup:

melee range
ranged range
spirit/mental/whatever range

Blade/Cut/Slash
Pierce/Puncture
Impact/Bludgeon
Hot/Heat/Fire
Cold/Ice
Holy
Shadow
-basically only for the mental/??? range-
Disrupt
Overwhelm/???

These are all the ones I plan to include in the EOM. If you're gonna add any more to the IE I probably wouldn't mind adding them to the EOM (I can work them in). Also, I don't really care what names are used for the basic damage types if you think they should change (like Blade to Cut for example). These 9 damage types would need to be in both eras though for us to coordinate. Adding the 3rd range isn't necessary to coordinate, it would just mean that your IE guys wouldn't get retal on that 3rd range.
