Solutoin for interbreeding: Since we are all female unless the Y chromosome starts kicking in during pre-natal growth, one of my deals with interbreeding has been that the offspring of two compatible species will be of the species of the mother.

Now, this could represent the importance of chromosome X and how chromosome Y was more of an afterthought of evolution/creation, or its wisdom in providing a pregnancy that the mother wouldn't "feel" different. The offspring could be sterile or could be not, in that i am pretty open to options, probabilities or choices.
On an other note, what's up with calling elven units elvish something, dwarves dwarvish something and orcs orcish something? For an example calling a unit "Elvish Archer" sounds like it's an elf-like archer, but not necessarily an elf.
I use dwarven and elven :P . I guess it has something to do with gentiliciums (sp?), and how they work for ease in communication. If the dog has a weapon and a culture, it may as well be a canine marine.

I could support turin in his idea, it does look very interesting at the moment.

Because it is relevant. If the race name is not part of the unit name, we don't have to worry about whether "Elvish Archer" means an archer who is an elf, or an archer who has elvish tendencies, or what. ;)

And don't forget any possible Elvish Impersonators... :)

I support this, since combinations like "Elvish archer" are awfully hard and cumbersome to translate into Finnish, at least. Maybe some other languages have that problem, too.

Seconded, at least the translation part.
In norwegian most combinations of race and unitname sounds at least abit awkward and constructed; Elvish Archer, Elfarcher or Archerelf.
The other and more exotic races like trolls, drakes and mermen are even worse. While this is not a huge problem, I would welcome a change like Turin's suggestion.

(For some reason, I don't find these combinations so constructed in the english language, probably because english is the common tongue of fantasy literature and games)
Play Dwarf Fortress, where berserker dwarves really make you cry!
