I know we are expecting another release soon, but I think it would still be a good idea to get a corrected windows release out for 1.1.4. I think it reflects poorly on the Wesnoth project that we know the current windows version won't install correctly and haven't fixed it yet. Telling people to change the name of the dll was reasonable yesterday, but we shouldn't expect people to have to do that until the 1.2 betas/rcs become available.
It is a development release, so people downloading it should expect a bit of DIY.bruno wrote:I know we are expecting another release soon, but I think it would still be a good idea to get a corrected windows release out for 1.1.4. And as it states on the front page, we are lucky to have a Windows version at all, seeing as its up to a volunteer (who has already apologised for the minor error) that compiles it.
Anyway, thank you - everything seems to be running alot smoother than the last one.

Yeah, there may be glitches, but it still makes us look bad when we can't fix what is essentially a typo in the installer.bioman wrote:It is a development release, so people downloading it should expect a bit of DIY. :) (they *should* stick with the stable release if its too much to ask).bruno wrote:I know we are expecting another release soon, but I think it would still be a good idea to get a corrected windows release out for 1.1.4. A reminder to windows users-- Make a fresh install, don't just overwrite an old version.

FYI, that only contains 1.1.2 and 1.1.2a.mjs-de wrote:ebuilds for gentoo are ready too:

I downloaded 1.1.4a and just renamed the DLL - should I be redownloading this one for the new Python24.dll or are both of the versions the same, but just with different names?Yogi Bear wrote:Here is a fixed version of the windows installer, hopefully now without any DLL problems.

Well i need to elaborate on that:bioman wrote:I downloaded 1.1.4a and just renamed the DLL - should I be redownloading this one for the new Python24.dll or are both of the versions the same, but just with different names?Yogi Bear wrote:Here is a fixed version of the windows installer, hopefully now without any DLL problems.

No, they are not the same DLL's. I am not sure if it even works by renaming the DLL but the only way to find out about that is writing your own python ai

There was a reason though, why i decided to replace that DLL. I read an interesting blog lately about python24 depending on msvcr71.DLL from microsoft (yes, exactly, some of you know that dll by now, don't you). The DLL itself does not seem to be a problem regarding the license to distribute it but to make full use of it you seem to need license restricted stuff. The author of the blog suspected that this was an unintended flaw that nobody noticed when the deal with microsoft was made.
Anyway, for wesnoth it does not make any difference if we use python23 or python24. So i decided to stay on the safe side and go back to python23. It does not suffer from any potential license problems and it does not need msvcr71.dll as well (so no need to deliver that one anymore).
But i forgot to change the library while compiling and so wesnoth still expected python24.dll to be there
