Help beta test Nexus War!

Post by LibrarianBrent »

Well, I'm an alpha tester for a browser-based online RPG game called Nexus War. In the game, you control characters who battle it out over different planes of existence in order to dictate what morality will shape the new universe. There are factional conflicts, a huge amount of skills, character classes, etc. The community is active and interesting on the forums, and the game is overall a blast to play, although the graphics are... minimal at best. Since the game is in beta now, though, the creator is looking for more people to help out. Therefore, I'd like to ask that y'all help test this great game, located at http://www.nexuswar.com . Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug my own faction, the League of Science-Heroes. Huzzah!

If it isn't open source/free software, I am not trying it.

I'll be more inclined to try it if it is open source, but it is not.

It doesn't matter if this game is really good, I don't care unless it is open source.

Well that is my stance, I choose not to care about properitary softwares. That is my choices.

They keyword is "I don't care". That is indifference, not hatred. I don't hate. I just simply don't care about it.

Indifference may be worse than hatred. That is up to you guys to decide.

I set up an account. However, there are some major bugs, such as 3 telephone poles in the starting location.

Well, I'll join the fray with an odd idiosyncrasy of mine:

I refuse to play games that don't post a single screenshot. That usually smacks to me of trying to hide the fact that they either have bad graphics, or no graphics at all.

As you can probably guess, game imagery is kindofa big thing for me. I can appreciate simple, but well-done sprite-based games. But I hate text-based games.* Always have. And don't want to waste 30 minutes of my time reading through the site and making my first character to find out I'm playing a text-based game, or some turd like http://www.phantasyrpg.com/

* I don't feel the need to justify this. It's just a personal preference.

He does say the graphics are minimal. I'm with you, though, gameplay only gets you so far (listen to us!). Kingdom of Loathing has neither gameplay nor graphics, so that's as far as you can go on nothing. This game at least claims to have some gameplay.

To Mr. Freedom Warrior, if you don't care so much, why do you keep telling us how much you don't care?

Scott:

I am explaining it only one time, not two time or three time.

To avoid derailing the topic, I make no futher comments on this.

You already explained it two times. :)

Though I share your preference for Free software, I'm afraid Scott's right; you can't declare your opinion out of the blue and then claim you don't care about it.

Back on track:

So has anyone played this yet? How did you find the gameplay and graphics?

Not a bug. The graphics are comparable to Urban Dead, if any of you have played that. Essentially color blocks with icons for important locales, etc. For people who need graphics to survive, Nexus probably isn't for you.

Am I supposed to kill the people I meet or are those other players? I wasted all my turns trying to attack some guy. I hope he's not bent out of shape over it.

Yet another spinoff of the old Vampire/Zombie game. I hate the vampire game.

Also, some screens are here.

Ive been playing Nexus War for quite a while now. At first I stopped playing because the interface takes a while to get used to. The general goal of the game is (there really isnt an ACUAL goal) is to join a faction and then fight non faction members to gain Expereince. Yes it is clearly taken right from Urban Dead so if you play Urban Dead and you check out Nexus War you will just about be right at home. The graphics themselves...umm... there really arent any. The biggest "graphic" is probebly about 32x32 pixels (if that). But even though there is a lack of graphics it is still a well done game.
The Slayer is back! In pog form.
